I worked my way up also from a 71 Vega to a 01 Cobra in 2005 !! (38)
I got more tickets in slower cars then all my stangs.

Cars are so much more powerful today, could not imagin the trouble a teen could get into with a 300 HP anything...........

If he saves all the money himself he will respect the car and take care of it, but there are always unforeseeable events that can occur, especially at college. College is the time when you get a four banger commuter that will get dinged and dented in the dorm parking lot that saves money for more Top Ramen, let alone the good car should come after college and the new job to reward yourself; that’s how I did it.

It all depends on the kid. I started at 15 with a permit and learned to drive in the 1992 5.0 auto. Got in an accident with it at 17, rear ended a girl who made a U turn in front of me while I was going 45mph (brakes in the 5.0 suck). She ended up being 15 with a permit with no adult in the car. The car wasn’t owned by her and there was no ins. on it. It was her fault and unavoidable. My ins. never went up thank god. Ended up with 4 grand to fix the car. Did all the work myself except the paint.
Then the summer before senior year in high school my father gave me his 2003 z06 vette. Quite an experience driving that senior year. No tickets and an experience I will remember for the rest of my life.
Well I graduated high school with a 4.58 weighted gpa and a 100% scholarship to FSU. I wanted to have my own bathroom and personal space so decided to live off campus. Thus I needed money, so I sold the z06 and worked all summer so I wont have to work during school and picked up a new gt mustang on a-plan. I know have enough money to pay for the apartment and other living expenses for my 4 years of college.

Well in the end I feel that it depends on the person not there age. I went for to a 200rwhp car to 380rwhp car and now I have one that is hopefully around 300rwhp Record it date is one accident (not my fault) and a ticket for a broken license $7.

I'm for saving towards something. But I agree college graduation, not high school, is probably the time to get the new Mustang. Drive an older car inbetween.

Man I have been this route. I have given the kids 4-wheelers, cars and just basic cool stuff. When you give it to them they have no apprication for anything. The first time they have to work and earn it, they have respect for it. They treat it like gold.
When I was growing up we didnt have a lot, so I have kinda spoiled my kids. But I have noticed that when you give them stuff they dont appricate it, when the earn it on there own they do. Now I learned this AFTER raising my kids. Now the grand-baby issue is at hand, to heck with it, I am spoling the every lovin hell ot of em.
