Has anyone heard about this new inspection law? I know the 4.6 crowd is ***&^d, but what about us fox body guys? I am planning a 393w build hoping to go 500hp+. Where does this leave me? Are we going to have to get a sniffer test? I highly doubt I can weld enough cats to this car with the combo I want to pass some sniffer test.

Duece,
seems that you live upstate... the sniffer test is old news to us in the new york metro area. about 5 years ago the state started to require the use of dynos to check emissions in this area. the state may be expanding the area in which this emission test is performed. as far as i know this test is currently required in rockland, westchester, all of new york city, and long island.
to get the real down low, go to your local authorized state inspection facility and ask.

If your car is well tuned you should have no problem passing.
I've been passing without cats on my car for 8 years and i only failed the dyno test once, because i had advanced my timming to 14 deg., once I brought it back to 10 deg. it passed. so once a year i need the put the timming back to 10 deg.

"F"...New York. Worse comes to worst I just won't get an inspection and take my chances getting pulled over and pay the stupid fine. I hate this state.

damn, if you're complaining about that then don't ever move to MA. we've had the sniffer and dyno for as long as I've been driving, at least 5 years.

probably not with an o/r h-pipe.

oh, here in Phoenix, all 1966 and newer vehicles need to pass the sniffer test every 1 or 2 years. Vehicles that are less than 5 years old do not need to do the sniffer.

They had the sniffer deal here in nh for a good number of years and than they pulled the plug on it.I have no idea if it will ever return but if it does there will be a lot of guys with sitting cars I believe. The other thing was that only the southern part of the state was reguired to have the cars done so if ya had a real pig of a car all ya had to do was move 25 miles north reregister and ya set go figure!

According to the official NYS site, the new test is for 1996 and later cars only. Everyone posting here in the '94-'95 forum should be fine.
