I picked up one of the stock, 5 hole gauge bezels so that i could get my Auto meter gauges put in.

IM putting my 5in moster tach in the middle, obviously.
Has anyone done this with 2 5/8th gauges? I know you need to do some cutting and triming for sure. Because the 2 1/16 do not even fit. Just looking for some direction so i dont break this thing while im triming it.

I googled this and came up with a few different write ups....none that exactly give what you ask for, but here is a good simple write up a guy did for his 67. Go to lowes and get a Dremel if you don't have one already...will make good cuts and not break that brittle plastic.

Instrument Cluster adapter

Hi,

I don't know if this will help or not but there was an article in the Dec. 2010 issue of Mustang Monthly (page 56) that showed an adapter to put aftermarket gauges in 65 - 66 Mustang dashes. Made by a company called Northwest Mustang. Had a hard time tracking down where to buy is as the places listed as a source didn't seem to have them listed. Found them at NPD.

Here is a link to the article:

Ford Mustang Custom Instrument Panel Install - Mustang Monthly Magazine

Here is a link to the part in the National Parts Depot online catalog:

10848-11A

and they have one for 67 - 68 Mustangs also:

10848-12A

Hope it helps.

Well, i ended up going with 2 5/8th inch gauges. So i got on the mill at work, and made the holes to the correct size. And ill be using the Bar Pod's for the wide band and whatever other important gauge i decide to put up there. I kinda like the look of the bigger gauges anyway. Thanks for the info though.

5" Monster Tach....obviously

Why Obviously? seems like the 'obvious' item would be a speedometer in that center hole.

just installed autometer tach

I'm probably not the first person to figure this out, but the autometer z-series tach is a direct bolt-in to my '68 instrument panel, no cutting required. Swapping the tach for an empty spot in the bezel took only a few minutes, once the instrument panel was removed. The only thing that would have made the kit nicer would be if it came with disconnects for the tach wiring.

LOL, don't really need a big ass tach in a fast car. Just give me a shift light.

Well, a speedo is pretty much a waste of time in a car that will be doing 30-55 mph on the way to a car show, or who knows how fast at a track. With only a 3 speed its not like im ganna be doing 80 and not know im going fast with how loud the motor will be.

I had the auto meter shift light with digital tach, and it wasnt working with the msd, so i said hell with it and got a monster tach. And since i have no idea what transmission im running in the future, i saw no reason to go through getting a new cable, and setting up the right gear ect, to only change it later.

Only running the needed stuff. Oil Pressure, Water Temp, Trans Temp, Gas Level, Tach, Boost/Vac, Wide Band.

Well, if your doing all new guages you could do the speedhut ones for the same price and smaller tach.

I have the tach with shiftlight from them and it works perfectly. Not as simple as turning a knob to set the shift light, but not difficult either. I have some interference with my speedo and the digital 7 ignition going on I gotta figure out. Speedo works, but the digital display with the miles etc is kinda screwy. Not a big deal though.

Did you twist/leave the wires twisted from the speedo to the tranny ?
