If I have a 5.0 shift pill in my AutoMeter Pro Shift light it seems to come on right at 5000rpm. When I put a 5.8 or other higher rpm pills in it and run it hard like at the track the light doesn't come on and I usually shift once I see my needle in the red. Is there something wrong with my set up or is the shift pill correct and the Stock Tach is just that far off?? thanks.

Did you try running the car past 5800 on the tach and see if the light comes on? Stock tachs get less accurate the higher the RPM's. I have the exact same set up as you. Trust the shift light not the tach. I ended up with a 5.6 pill rather than the 5.8 because the car was reving to high and it was out of the power range.

Stock tachs are notorious for being off as RPM increases.

I have a 5" automoter autogauge with shift light.. would it be possible to use this shift light by itself with a "pill"? I'd like to remove my 5" tach, and just run a shiftlight with the stock tach, as it seems to be dead on with the autometer.

Just buy a stand alone light. There like 50-75$ I think.

Why would I do that, if i could use my existing shift light?

This tach is brand new.. I have found my stock tach isn't as inaccurate as most people told me it would be, and I don't like the attention I get with the big tach. A shift light by itself would be mint..

Maybe ill ask autometer..

Hes saying you can get the Autometer Pro Lite that use the pills for that price. Why waste a good tach that you can sell with the light for good money? Sell the tach and buy the Pro Lite. You can get an MSD RPM Activated Switch that uses MSD's pills if you're stuck on using your light from your tach.

Or you could just get a Raptor Shift Light and get rid of the pills all together.

The stock Tach's are off. I have seen as much as 200-500 RPM off compared with an Autometer Tach.

Well that's perfect. I'll trade you my lite and pill and some cash for your tach and lite.

I have the standalone Pro Form shift light, and find that it works much better than I first thought, and yes, the stock 82 tach is not real accurate at 5500 plus.
