Something I just noticed today, When the Key is in the on position, engine running or not running. When I touch the brake I hear a fairly loud "Click" same when I realease the brake. "Click" Coming from the shifter area.
So its like Click, Click, I have never noticed the sound before. So it keeps you from shifting from Park to Drive unless your foot is on the brake.
Im thinking the solinoid is going bad or something and I dont want to get stranded. Is the noise normal? A guy at work had that happen in his
Chrysler 300, couldnt get it to shift to drive from park. Im not looking
forward to taking the console apart.....:D

It's the shifter interlock it prevents the transmission from being shifted out of park when the brake pedal isn't depressed. It was mandated decades ago when a string of kids left alone in cars shifted the cars to neutral and it rolled causing accidents and hurting/killing the children and others.

Yeah its a good thing, but its kind of a loud click...... when the engines running
you wont hear it, but if the key is in the on position, engine not running and you touch the brake...
you will hear it clicking......
