auto transmission or 5-speed?

I am interested in buying a new mustang v6....I'm also thinking of possibly going with a convertable. I am just not sure if I should go with the auto transmission or 5-speed. I have had many 5 speeds and sports cars in the past and have also owned automatics. My thinking on the auto is I am thinking relaxing summer cruising ride in a lazy man's auto. Lot's of stop and go traffic in city...just wnat to chill out......other part of me says that even though it's only a v6 the 5 speed will be more fun to drive ...over 200hp in a stick I'm sure the car will be quick enough for me. I'm really not sure if I should sacrifice fun for comfort. I have driven a new mustang v6 auto and it was fine ....I have not driven a 5 speed v6 yet......thanks for your input in advance.

Your question might be moot ... there have been so few V6 Verts with sticks produced that finding one is difficult - at best.

Another better idea from FORD?

stick costs???

hey,
i too am looking into getting a v6 stang. while i want to get a stick, my dad (who is paying for it) says in the long run it will cost more to have a manual than if i get an auto.....in my mind hes on crack when its at least $1,500 cheaper to get the manual... any info would be awsome.

Thanks

He might be right if you're just learning to drive the stick ... (clutches you know?)

but if you're already a gear jammer then the 5-spd Stick is the best way to go! :nice:

yea see my parents have made me take stick lessons so that i do it properly.... the way i look at it is if u drive a auto hard, it could cost u a few k to get it fixed. where if u drive a stick hard, its only a few hundred.

Well you've still got more to learn. The cost of repairs has nothing to do with tranmission type. You can scatter a manual just as easy as an automatic, it just takes the right combination to do the deed. And actually you can break more stuff with a manual. Not just the tranmission.

One day all cars will be automatics - the age of the computer will help define cars more and more. Don't give me this Macho BS, or being 'one with the car'

Why is it macho BS? Obviously you have more control over the car if you're the one shifting the gears yourself rather than the car automtically doing it. I'm not saying it's better or worse to drive a manual or that the performance is better, but the driver is more involved in the actual functioning of the vehicle with a stick and if the driver knows what he or she is doing the performance likely will be better (all modifications aside). That's just a simple fact. If someone wants an auto, then all the power to them. But I enjoy driving stick a lot more than an auto because of the control you have in the car and it makes me feel more involved - and if you call that macho BS, I'd say you're just as ignorant as the guy who made the vagina comment.

To the original poster of this thread, get what you feel most comfortable with. If driving manual through stop-and-go bothers you, then go with the V6(personally I don't mind driving stick through city traffic). From a performance perspective I've been told the V6 performs better as an automatic whereas the GT performs better with a manual tranny. This is coming from a salesguy at the dealership I get my car serviced at, not something I can verify myself.
