Hey All,
I have an 01' Gt with an automatic and i am finding out that first gear does not last a long time.It seems like it is shifting out of first way too quick. And to be truthful when it goes into the other gears it shifts weird.Does anybody else notice this?Is there anything i can do to change the shift points or duration?

Thanx,
Jack

No you are fine. Unless you stay on the gas, the car will up shift and downshift like a bitch. You don't need to change your fluid untill you reach 30thou. Im about to reach 60 and will have my changed again.

Tunr od off and noticed how much better it behaves. One of the downfalls of owning an automatic, it shifts when it wants to

Still love mine!

What are your mods? Do you have stock gears or did you swap for another ratio?

I had the same or similar problem with my auto after installing 4.10 gears with a Diablosport Predator tune. 1st gear would last just a split second, then shifts to second. And while cruising (30-45mph), the tranny would shift into overdrive way too soon. At times, my car felt like a three-spreed automatic since 1st gear was basically non-existent.

Since then, I've replaced the Predator tune with a custom SCT tune, and the shifting has improved greatly. I actually "have" first gear now. And at WOT, it shifts into second at 5700 RPM.

4.10 gears are so much shorter that it will run through 1st quick anyway. The only way to make an auto hang in first longer is to gas it more. :nice:

Unless you tune it, of course. WOT shift points can be tuned with a Predator, but I hear that the XCalibrator 2 tunes Partial throttle shift points also, so that could be handy. I have a diablosport predator, and I like mine for the most part. I hear that the next revision for the Predator will allow users to adjust partial-throttle shift points as well.

My GT auto does have jerky/choppy shifts sometimes. I guess that's because the auto is designed more for performance than for smoothness. Which, to be honest, I don't mind that much. After all it is a Mustang. I've posted some threads about the smoothness of my shifts too, but I decided to either get a manual if I want different shifts, or just be happy with what I have, because it's not like it's aweful.

That's the thing. In the past, mine would shift into second even faster if I give it too much gas. I suppose the Predator tune I had wasn't the best. *shrugs*

But mine now drives totally different considering the shift points on partial throttle has been changed. Tim@MPH had it tuned where first doesn't go into second so quickly during normal driving.

As Red03Mustang mentioned, the Predator can adjust your WOT shifts. The Predator's tune does nothing to your part throttle shifts. For now, it will take a custom tune to get the part throttle shift points changed. I have one on mine and by the way it shifts, people think I have a 5-speed. My gears hold to 2500-3000 RPM during normal daily driving.

Keep in mind, the shift schedule is all computer controlled and is based on SPEED VS THROTTLE POSITION.

Maybe someone with an Xcal2 and an auto trans can tell us more about the part throttle shift point adjustments.
