I bought a 2001 Mustang GT with an automatic transmission. I know..i know... After driving my brothers car i regret it every second. My question is: How much horsepower and torque will that AOD transmission hold? Any one who with specific mods please tell me, just so i can get an idea. My intention is to get it up to about 550 hp. Please tell me if that is obtainable!

Thanks

Whewww!.....thats alot to ask of an automatic. I figured mine will bite the dust sooner rather than later after head work and cams which should put my 98 around 350 to 375rwhp.

550 hp on the stock tranny is out of the question. You would want a full rebuild by a good tranny shop. Let them know what u wanna do with it and they will build it to your needs.

The 4r70w in the 01 and up have been known to handle 500+ hp with just the jerry mod and a good transmision cooler. Its all about how well you take care of it before and after the hp increase.I've seen plenty of 5-speeds grenade with less than 500hp. http://www.tccoa.comhas alot of good info on the automatic in our GT's.

The tranny might hold 500hp...but don't expect it to last very long. Thats what I was getting at.
