Hello,

We have rebuild a C4 Automatic transmission. Everythink is perfect except the reserve. When you put the car in reserve the transmission doesn't respond. But if you give the car a little throttle the transmission responds and gets in reserve!!!

Can somebody tell me whats wrong!!!

Can somebody also tell me how this transmission works....witch clutch and band are engage in every gear!!

greetings

Freek (from Holland)

Sounds like it's low on fluid. Does it do this in drive too?

Park = no band and no clutch
reverse = reverse band and direct clutch
neutral = no band and no clutch
drive = 1st gear is forward clutch, 2nd gear is forward clutch and intermediate band third is forward clutch and direct clutch
2= forward clutch and intermediate band
1=forward clutch and reverse band

I would check the reverse band adjustment too. Tighten 120 in.-lbs., back off 3 turns counterclockwise

By applying the reverse band it gives you engine braking in 1. That is the only difference. There is not any increase in TQ capacity. Most manual valve bodies do not apply the reverse band in 1 and coast on decel.
