Hey guys, I bought an autometer temp gauge. It says in the directions "do not remove capillary tube from gauge"

Well, my gauge came diconnected from the sensor....and there is no evidence that it was in their before.

Its hard to get in there/I'm not sure its even possible to get it all the way in.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Did someone send an electric gauge by mistake?

In any case, Ron is right-on.

Good luck.

Thanks guys.

It's mechanical, Hopefully summit racing will refund me even though I have already tried to install it in my car and threw away the instructions.

Is there any way for me to get the sensor into the gauge by myself? Or is this something that can only be done during production.

AFAIK, once the capillary line is corrupted, it's done. Even a sharp kink can screw it up. They used to have ether in 'em (not sure if they still do) and once it's out, the needle wont register correctly.

I had a kink in the line and ever since the needle does not work in smooth motion. Kinda jumps by 10 degree incraments. Sometimes even needs a tap like some kind of old russian submarine.

Mine's always been a little bit wonky from Day 1, and so has every other aftermarket temp gauge I've tried. They always seem to stick forever at near-nothing on temp, for a couple of miles, and then move up to regular temp in just a couple of seconds. I'm honestly tempted to just go back to using the factory junk.

I would think the digital temp. gauges would be better (smoother), but I'd hate to go back to stock guessing gauge.

I have electronic Phantom gauges, and they work great. Smooth, accurate needle, no problems thus far. Maybe consider non-mechanical?

I hate to say it, but for the guys whose gauges are like the bowels of old people (see little or no movement early, and then lots of movement later), ensure that the sender is not in the t-stat housing.

On the heater core hose near the pump. Then again, my only problem is a little hickup by about 5-10 degrees.

No, it's plugged in right where the stock sending unit used to be. I dunno, maybe I should go the aforementioned route with a T-connection piece used in place of ... oh, wait, I don't have any heater hoses...
