stock class

My buddy never dyno'd his car but this is his car and what he ran....

Stock motor rules

87 black lx hatch owners name was ted
prpbably wont believe me but its the truth
set it up for nhra stock rules, which are

untouched motor
battery in trunk
open headers
any rear end
any suspension mods
any gear
any slick

all he did was make his own ram air and take out headlight
he has a 9 inch with 4.56 but with a taller slick
12 by 28 tall
90/10 in the front
4 link in the rear

he shifted at 4600 cuz thats when the stock cam stops making power.

That hooked like hell and lifted the wheels a ft in the air.
Best time (track record) 12.38 @ 107
totally stock motor

he put on 100hp spray once for fun and went 11.2 @ 118

I was running everything in my sig on SD I just want to do more with it so I switched to maf 2 months ago. In all honesty I do not see any difference in the way the motor runs. It may be a little smoother, but its not any faster.

To Shaun:

i do not have to own or have build every type of motor to have knowledge of them. I was simply pointing out that the bcam is very similar to the stock HO cam so he would know that CERTAIN cams will be out of his range. I was in no way cutting you or your car down. I don't get on here and bash people, sorry that you misunderstood the point I was making.

ps: that's all that's done to my car because I've been gathering parts for my winter build, didn't feel it was nessisary to list parts that I own but don't have on the vehicle.

So you have heard of them. I've known them since 89. They used to make parts, there was no such thing as a b303 or a gt-40 intake. Thats why on the speed density thread i said you can change cams without mass air. There was no such thing as mass air or bigger injectors back then. They had lots of cars deep in the 11's 19lb injectors o mass air. Custom cams with durations above 240 at 0.50....

Yeah I was told alphabet cams are outdate but still are popular with the 5.0 crowd. I had an Xcam in my 90 lx and it was a HUGE difference than my 88 with e303 cam. I sure miss the loop too.

I wouldn't call letter cams outdated. Outdated is your 8-track player where it's tough to get parts and support for

Letter cams have just been around for a while. They still work, but there are more options out there these days that might work better for your combo

My thing with letter cams is that for nearly the same price there are much better cams on the market

With the wide availability of custom grinds and even off the shelf "dual pattern" bump sticks available today, a person would really be selling themselves short limiting their options with a 15-year-old "alphabet" grind. Remember, these cams were built with the most impressive flowing set of heads and intake made for a Mustang were of the GT-40 variety. The were designed with mass production and cost savings in mind at best. Not optimum performance.

Sure, they're an improvement over the stocker, but could never match the drivability or total output of a properly thought out dual pattern grind that was taylored to your specific combination.

Keep in mind....your camshaft is basically the "heart and soul" of your engine. Are you really gonna skimp a couple of hundred dollars there, after dropping several thousand on a built short block, aluminum heads and high flow intake....not to mention all of the suporting intake and exhaust components that go along with it. It just doesn’t make sense IMO.

Exactly what I mean. Not knocking anyone who has or has had one, technology changes so fast these days, no sense not going with better for the same money. I'd like to see ford come up with new designs though, but it seems like they're steering away from the 5.0l now.
