Why does everyone always say AWD robs power and such? True, it may rob more crank hp by the time it reches the wheels...but why doesn't anyone ever grasp the concept that wheel hp = wheel hp. Say you have a 400awhp STI and a 400rwhp Mustang, THEY BOTH HAVE THE SAME AMOUNT OF POWER!

everyone understands that. you have to produce more flywheel hp to make the same whp which isn't always easy/cheap.

That "knob" you speak of has been out since 05...08s are out now. That was 3 years ago, catch up with the times man. And i always experimented with mine and didnt notice any difference. I always left it in auto.

i dont look much at other cars stuff.. and i dont knock other cars that i dont know about, so i call it good... i just thought it was nifty

Not true. An awd system typically has a higher drivetrain loss than a rwd or fwd vehicle. Given that two cars are exactly the same weight and crank hp the rwd will lay more hp down to the ground (where it matters)
For example a mustang with 300hp has maybe a 20% drivetrain loss which ends up being 240whp. A similar awd car with 300hp may have a 30% drivetrain loss which = 210whp. Hypothetically speaking the mustang will win because it has more hp to the wheels, but some may be lost to wheelspin.
So even if the awd car has less whp it may win in the 60' because of the traction advantage. Everything from 2nd gear on is all rwd though due to the absence of wheelspin.

my friend says that all wheel drive is better for launching in the drag, but i say its only good for curvy roads or tracks, and the only reason rear wheel drive is better in the drag is because it can put power into 2 big wheels, with the right amount of weight on the rear axle to hold the wheels down, and also you dont have to split the power up to each wheel. please show me that im right because i know that i am, my friend is just being stupid. i know that you can make an AWD car launch good, but no where near as good as RWD.

buddy...
an AWD car will launch better than a RWD....stock to stock, an AWD car will always launch better than a RWD

If AWD was better for drag, then NHRA top fuel, and funny car, the cars designed to do the fastest 1/4 time on the planet, would have it....If AWD was better for road racing, then Formula 1, Champ Car, LeMans, Nascar, and any other league of racing would have it...unless he wants to go rally racing, then RWD is better when you are dealing with high horsepower purpose built cars. For the street, maybe AWD is better for a dig race, but ill still take RWD over AWD anyday, point and case made :D

did you even read his post? he clearly states wheel hp to wheel hp. he concedes that the awd needs to produce more flywheel hp.
