Need help with identifying axle. Have a 1969 Coupe.; The axle tag says;

WCZ - V1 9AC
79 8 930A

I was pretty sure it was an 8" item until I compared it to a friends 9" and couldnt see any external differences. Are the casings the same? How can you tell from the outside? It bolts up from the front of the axle and has a ribbed casing on the diff. The picture below is of a 9" (which looks exactly like the one I have) but I cannot find one of an 8"-

Thanks.

Check this page for some info:

Looks like you are missing a number in front of the 79, my guess is that it should be a 2. My opinion on what you have is a 8" open with 2.79 gears.

Th easiest way to tell is the bottom two nuts that hold the pumpkin in. If you can get a socket on them, it's an 8". If you need a wrench to get them off, it's a 9".
