Hey i when i'm ready to put 3.73's in my 8.8, i also am looking into a heavier duty axle upgrade. If i go with a 31 spline axle, is there any other things i have to consider with the rear with this axle? Then I'm putting an aluminum driveshaft, and a whole suspension kit, i think eibach pro kit with kyb gas-adjust shocks. Thanks.

You will have to change the limetd slip unit or posi. they are set for 28 spline axles. I would also change all the axle bearings while your in there

Depends on what your doing. If it is for drag racing 31 or more all the way. I have 31 in my car and I am leaving at 6K everypass. It just a saftey issue. But if you are going to just drive it and do some street racing then you can stay with the 28s

Alright, Right now im just starting with upgrading drivetrain, then im moving to motor, I'm not going to have a drag car, It's going to be street with some occasional passes at strip. But If i were to get 31 spline, how much is the posi unit for 31 spline? thanks

I have a question about posi units...

I've heard and read that the eaton ones are good. My buddy had a Detroit locker unit in his 87 T Type that worked well.. I did have a buddy with a Canyon Red 86 RS Capri [now competes in Renegade] that had an Auburn unit back in 1995/1996. I remember he was running mid/low 11s [best was 11.19 I think] and it started getting 1 wheel peelish on his burnouts half way thru the day, and his 60 foots were all over that day from 1.50s to 1.90s.. Doubt i'd buy one.

Anyone ever used/using a powertrax unit? I want to change the stock trac lok unit and probably axles too - but whens a good time to upgrade 31 spline axles?? Low 12s? 11s? or is it, when you start routinely cutting 1.6xx 60s on slicks?? Wonder if there is a way to put a stiffer spring in the stock trac lok unit so it gets two tires no matter What all units do you guys prefer/are using?

Because I HAVE seen a bone stock rear w/ 3.73s run 10.77 @ 131 MPH 1.68 60' before in my friend Franks 89 LX hatch [VERY Built/girdled 306, T5-Z, 3.73s, w/ S trim & aftercooler @ 14 PSI]. The above mentioned Capri had stock axles and what not too... just 3.5 gear, and the Auburn posi unit when doing the low 11s. Neither of them broke..

But I DO want to upgrade my posi unit anf figured while it was apart i'd buy some better axles... Just wanted your opinions as tons of you have been there & done that

Thanks!
