B&M Z Gate Aftermarket shifter?

I also wanted to use an aftermarket shifter with the stock console. Actually I wanted to use the stock one, but it's not NHRA legal. No aftermarket one I found was compact enough to just bolt in and fit, because the stock shifter sits half in the floor. I wound up using a Hurst Quarter Stick for it's compact design, and then I built a bucket for it to sit in, that sinks it about 1.5" into the floor. This required making a larger hole in the floor, but it wasn't a big deal for me as this body had a T5 in it previously and someone else already cut the floor. Now the Quarter Stick sits nice and low, and the factory console fits over it. I still need to make some kind of finish plate or boot, but I haven't reached that point yet.

I think the closest thing you gonna find by either B&M or Hurst is the B&M 'Hammer' shifter # 81003 for the 79-86 Mustang (is set up for an AOD) and it's console. A conversion kit #81020 will convert it for use with the C4 trans. You may also be able to use the #81002 87-92 Mustang w/console one aswell.

I have a older Cheetah Shifter on the shelf that is very similar to Cheetah # 70003B and it seems to fit the hole in the console just about right. Only drawback is the shifter assy itself is kinda tall warranting you to have to 'raise up' the whole console or have the shifter stick up through the hole a little bit.

Might I add that neither one of these shifters here are cheap units. Both are in the $200 or greater range.
