Hey i just got back from the dyno... 260 RWHP and 252 RWTQ....
damn i thought they would be better for all the work i did and the money i spent??? or is that normal? cause of my aod or what...i thought thumpers heads were suppose to push out more than that..he even tried to tune it to the best possible....

Did you go to Kauffmans? What ever happened with your motor, did DSS hep you out?

Man,

Those numbers are not anything to sneeze at. It shows me that Thumper's heads do run neck and neck with stock GT40 heads...you're pushing, if you figure a drivetrain loss of 15%, you're looking at 299 FWHP and 290 FWTQ...that's not all that bad.

I noticed something in your sig, you don't list any headers...are you using stock headers? My advice, find yourself some 1 5/8" LT headers, and OR H or X pipe. The other area that you might look at would be Underdrive pulleys and an Electric Fan. You probably won't hit the 300RWHP mark wtih that, but you should get a nice kick in the pants, and maybe get you to the 270-280 RWHP mark. If you need more power, you might look at a different camshaft...I have no gripes with the E cam, it's not bad, but there are better one's available. SO...UD Pulleys, Electric Fan, Uncork the Exhaust, and pick a more efficient camshaft, and you should be better off.

One other thing I want to point out, from what I have read (both on his site and on the board), Thumper's heads are not designed for a high peak number, but to make a lot of torque in a useable RPM band, that is better than stock. Thumper looks for quick throttle response and neck snapping torque...not a high RPM tempermental narrow powerbanded PITA. I would love to see the graph, and see what the torque/hp curve looks like....my bet is you get a nice broad curve that is all useable and probably very fun to drive. It sounds to me like Thumper's heads are delivering as advertised....I just hope you did not have unrealistic expectations.

thanks guys..i do have an offroad h-pipe and ford racing shortys...jet coated...
he said with my aod loss is like 22% so added to the rear wear its like 315 hp at the motor...i just thought it would be more..but its cool im happy..what bout torque loss would that be the same percent? if it is then am i making a significant amout of torque with my setup?

One other thing, I don't remember which issue, but I think MMFF did a dyno test in which one of the participants switched toan Explorer intake, GT40P heads, Steeda #19 cam, and shorty headers/hpipe, etc., and after tuning, made similar numbers to yours.

Not sure i'd be very impressed with those torque numbers.. a stock mustang puts out more torque than that to the rear wheels!

You have an automatic with an aftermarket stall. I bet the converter screwed up the numbers. As long as the a/f was good and the timing was set to where the car likes it, go to the track and see what it runs. 260rwhp through an aod with that combo is pretty good. The track is what counts more!

The hp #'s look nice for an NA car. I was expecting to see around 270 or so, but 260's nothing to sneeze at with as light as these fox bodies are. Your torque does seem oddly low to me as well I was figuring you would be at least 290lb/ft+.
Still pretty nice #"s though. I know a guy who had a 5 speed that he just sold. Had forged internals, Performer II intake, Edlebrock II heads, not sure of the cam he had, but he was only putting down about 260, not sure of his torque though.

Impossible? They were rated at 290 or 300ft lbs stock, and i've seen dynosheets of nearly stock mustangs putting out over 250rwtq on a couple occasions.

question about my fan clutch..he said it shouldnt be getting this hot..it would reach like 195-205 just idling there after a pull...with a big fan blowing on it...He said my clutch didnt seem liek it was working..its a BRAND new heavy duty clutch..and when its cold it seems hard to spin but then after its hot and i shut of the car it seems alittle easier?! shouldnt it be almost impossible to spin after its hot?

nice #'s, I've only seen a couple of dyno's w/those heads, I thought I saw someone make around 276 rwhp w/similar setup but w/a 5 spd. Nice setup though

I just read an older magazine I had, and it was the MMFF Stone Pony Buildup, and using Ebrock Performer heads, Ebrock Performer intaKe, and the Ebrock cam that has all the same specs as an E303, they put down 258 RWHP/310 RWTQ...and that was with a ProM 77 MAF, 24 lb/hr injectors, and a 70 mm TB.

You're doing fine.

Horse power cost a lot of money..I recently dynoed at 436HP and was satisfied..I guess, I was expecting closer to 500 (mabye with a different blower pully for way more boost). I bought my LX for $5500 and easily dropped $15,000 into it..over 2 years..Now its time to pass smog so I can actually drive it..instead of ripping it around the block unregistered.

Look at my dyno sheet in sig link page 2, 225rwhp and 298rwtq with stock H/C/I. I'm just finishing up my TKO install with aluminum d/s and flywheel, port matched TB/EGR to intake, switched to Redline synthetic fluid in trans and engine, installing pro-chamber with new o2's and going to clean 5 year old K&N. I'm expecting 250rwhp and over 300rwtq on my next pull with the stock H/C/I still on the car. I have a 2 1/2" Magnaflow cat-back but I'm not sure if that will make it on before the dyno.
