The fastback does look great with that size. Nice and clean. I guess it all depends upon person preference. Would you mind telling us where did you locate this size for that price? Was it on-line or local to you? Any more pictures available, say more of a total side view? I would like to see how much of the wheel wells are filled up. Is your fastback lowered in any way?
I will post some more pics on the weekend then i am home. I bought the tires from discount tire company. they price match and also beat the price. sears had them for 103 and change and they sold them to me for 100 bucks a tire. of course i paid tax and mounting. but a 100 buck for that tire size is a deal IMO.
I too prefer the fat tire filled fenderwell look. Doogie67 your car almost looks like a 'Gasser' with those bulging tires, awesome look. It's funny how you can immediately spot if a car has 15 or 17" wheels at a glance, to me the spokes of the rims just get too long and the sidewall gets too short. I'll be fitting my own design disc brakes under my 15" wheels for stopping power. Just remember when you increase to 13" rotors, 17" rims, 17" tires you greatly increase rotational mass, unsprung wt., total wt. of car due to heavier brakes/tires/wheels, etc. so the trade off is negligable IMO and may be less of an improvement. The thinner sidewalls do increase lateral stiffness but that has to affect ride in some way. Back when these cars were built the 15" balloon tires (by todays standards) were part of the suspension pretty much as the suspension was so archaic.
It all comes down to visual and ride preference of the owner. I don't turn away from looking at most any car regardless of tire size at a show/cruise in but have to admit I am drawn to the 15" cars. A member of our club has an '08 Bullitt he races and street drives and it's rolling on huge 15" meat, that car looks incredible next to a stock 'sprung' 17"/18" stock bullitt, makes the stock one look like the wifes car.
