Back Window Replacement Question - 00 GT 'Vert

Greetings,
While getting my '00 GT 'Vert Pony fixed at my local mechanics place, for some reason, and I am not sure why, the read window shattered.
My question is this: Can a new rear window be stitched back in place, or does the whole top have to be replaced? Mine rear window did have a defroster.

The window can be replaced for about $300-350.

when you replace your top, can you re-use a lot of the existing parts? Like the headliner, the back glass, etc? I saw a nice top on ebay (said made by haartz for mustang) for around $150. Would it be possible to just buy that, take it to a upholstery shop, and have that installed? 150 + labor ?

Well, tops are so cheap I am thinking about buying two and installing a practice one then doing one for real. I will still save money over professional installation...
