Bad air meter?

My brother has had my car for a few months now, doing some work that I haven't had time to do. He called yesterday, and told me that the car won't stay running. It would idle, but as soon as he touched the gas, it shut off. Someone told him the meters little wire that reads the air can brake in extreme cold. Does this sound right?

And it's a Cobra engine, so are the stock MAFs for 19 lb injectors EXACTLY the same?

Not likely. MAF's are pretty tough as long as they are in the MAF housing.

Dump the codes and see what the computer says is wrong…

Here's the link to dump the computer codes with only a jumper wire or paper clip and the check engine light, or test light or voltmeter. I’ve used it for years, and it works great.

IF your car is an 86-88 stang, you'll have to use the test lamp or voltmeter method. There is no functional check engine light on the 86-88's except possibly the Cali Mass Air cars.

Codes have different answers if the engine is running from the answers that it has when the engine isn't running. It helps a lot to know if you had the engine running when you ran the test.

Trouble codes are either 2 digit or 3 digit, there are no cars that use both 2 digit codes and 3 digit codes.

Yea dump the codes, and he could try giving the top of the meter a few love taps...at least it works for me. Normally when my maf gets in a bad mood it drives ok but it idles so lean and idles like it has a HUGE cam in it, and the vacuum at idle also gets lower.

Thanks. He swears it's the little piece that reads the iar. He said it froze and got sucked off. Oh well, he's getting it fixed, so we'll see.
