Hey guys,

Wanted to get your opinions on what I should do. Had my friend who is a mechanic install all of my exhaust stuff I have on my car.

Ordered a Magnaflow Tru-x Off Road pipe and had him install it last Friday (he had already installed my Magnapacks recently). It sounded good the first day but soon I heard an exhaust leak. So he was working Sunday & I met him at his shop to see if I was just hearing things or what.

Turns out there are leaks all over the place. He broke all the clamps (I think it was because he was using his airtools and they have too much torque for the clamps) for the magnaflow catback and he had to weld everywhere. He said they were junk clamps and he hadn't had that problem with his magnaflow kit. There are leaks at the joints where the catback pipes meet (some on "top"of the pipe where welding is hard?)there is a leak on the driver side x-pipe join with the header, etc.

So after welding it seems alot better (or so he says I'm on the lift turning the car on and off for him). When we get done it does sound better and we leave it that. However I start hearing leaks again on the way home, almost worse than it was before. So now my 800 dollar system sounds like crap, has no clamps and has been welded in several places.

So I ask, what should I do? Ask my friend to look at it again?(he's a mechanic for a lawncare co and did work at ford for 6 mo's) Without the clamps how could he even fix it? (Especially the places on the top of the pipes) Could a muffler shop do something? Do I need to get new kits? This is very frustrating as you can guess!

Sounds like he did a ****y fit. I never had any leaking problems with my Magnaflow catback hooked to a BBK x or my setup now. Only problem I had was with the driver side exhaust manifold. BBK made their collector/flange wrong.

I think you are pretty screwed now since they are welded. You will have to have someone else come in and fix the welds and make sure everything is lined up right.

The magnaflow clamps are junk, they are so cheap that they can only be tightened once. If you try to loosen them and re-tighten, they snap. I replaced all the clamps that came with my cat-back with some heavy duty ones from autozone. Bring it to a good exhaust shop and they will be able to fix it for you. Chances are its the x-pipe leaking from the header.

Tell your buddy to fix it right or take it to someone that knows what they're doing. FYI ... According to the Magnaflow rep that used to loaf here, if you weld your catback you just voided your warranty with Magnaflow ... if you care. I've clamped both catbacks on my car and never had any leaks. I even used Magnaflow's clamps when I had the 'packs on mine and never had a problem ... I thought their clamps were pretty good compared to the cheap ones Blowmaster gives you.
