Bad piston wrist pin

A couple of months back my Mustang started to occasionally sound as if it was detonation on one of the cylinders. It's been in stroage for the past 3 years and my Dad starts it up a few times a month, but he said the tick has gotten a little bit louder. We are going to pull the motor when I head back for a visit, but have you guys had similar experiences with wrist pins in the past? What did it sound like? Did it progressively get worse over time? Dad thinks it is either a wrist pin or a piston skirt, but we will fix it either way.

You guys had a wrist pin go bad or a piston skirt go bad? Thanks,

More likely a piston skirt. It will sound like the piston is slopping around in the cylinder, and more like a mid-pitch knock instead of a higher pitch tick like a lifter or a lower pitch knocking like loose main bearings. It will also be noticeably different under different loads.

Would it be noticably different if I pulled a plug wire on the suspected cylinder?

It will if it has anything to do with the piston, but that is the problem. You wouldn't isolate it between the pin or the skirt.

Can you describe more about how loud it is under different loads or different rpms?

Right now I can't because I am still in Germany, but I will be with the car at the end of the month. I'm just trying to prepare for what it is for $$$ and time. I am very curious to see what it is though.
