Recently replaced my stock intake manifold with a new doorman one and also replaced the up flow o2 sensors in my 2002 mustang gt with 141k miles (the car is tuned and the down flows are disabled) . About 2 weeks after i replaced the two i started to notice a bad stutter after wot (appears at around 4k - 4.5k rpms). The car begins to stutter, the exhaust seems to cut in and out with the stutter, and there is a strong oil smell after. The stutter lasts for about 10 - 30 seconds and then the car seems to be fine after. This has me stumbled and i cant seem to figure out the issue myself. Bad valve seals? Thanks for any suggestions.

There are two areas that I would rule out at the beginning.
  • Voltage drop caused by alternator brush bounce
  • weak ignition cutting out at times of high cylinder loading.
  • all of the above.
  • something else
It's very possible that alternator drop out is also CAUSING an ignition problem. Don't discount the possibility of this symptom being related to poor charging voltage.
