bad tank neck seal on 98

hey i have a question.i have a 98 v6 3.8 convertable mustang. Will a filler neck seal make the purge valve and/or ftp sensor read bad? whats goin on is mainly when its really hot outside or if my car gets really warmed up it gets to spitting and sputtering and stalling. i have repalced plugsn wires, fuel filter, o2 sensors, and we even put a cold air intake on it for the MAF sensor but none of that fixed it. i know i have a bad filler neck seal. i can only fill my car up 3/4 full b4 it leaks out. but can a bad seal make the purge valve n ftp sensor throw codes?

Short answer is YES! Any leak in the EVAP system can cause EVAP related DTC codes.

The bad filler neck grommet is a very common problem. Also, check the filler neck for rust through especially if there is a plastic rock guard on the filler neck.
