bad vibration over 60 mph

anything over 60 mph and i have wicked vibration. thought it might be a tire. they were replaced 900 miles ago by the last owner. i know it needs struts in a bad way.

Is the vibration in the front or in the rear of the car. I had a vibration in the rear of mine and found out it was the driveshaft. I got the driveshaft balanced and that cured it.

tires may need to be balanced. my 87 lx did the same thing at 60

Assuming your car is a 5-speed, does the shifter shake really bad too? It's most likely your driveshaft if it does. Put the rear of your car on jackstands, chock the front wheels, and put the car in gear. You can actually see if the driveshaft is visibly out of round as it turns. If that turns out to be the problem, go for an FRP aluminum driveshaft. Best $160 you'll ever spend.

Just because the tires are new doesn't mean they are in balance. I would get the tires balanced first and check the wheels and tires for runout. If that is good and still are having problems, go ahead and get the FMS Aluminum driveshaft because not only is your d/s probally out of balance, but most likley the U joints are not so good, after all is said and done, the FMS replacement is a better deal. I am glad I did mine.

Great info. to get rid of the vibs. Even if you get a new driveshaft you need to index it, at least at the diff. flange. Also it is a good idea to have the transmission output shaft bushing replaced at the same time.

Well, if it is a new condition then maybe not. Could be a bent driveshaft or bad U-joint. If it has done this since you got the car and it has had the gears changed by the previous owner then maybe just the rear of the driveshaft needs to be indexed. I'd say put it up on jacks and check it out to be sure. There shouldn't be much play in any of the components rear end, u-joints or output shaft bushing/yoke.

i am going to put 373 gears in this weekend i will try installing driveshaft 180 out
