Balancer options?

Well i've been reading on the board that the stock balancer is of questionable quality. I've noticed my motor vibrates a bit (vibrates with clutch in). The bottom end is all stock so unless the factory balance is terrible it should be within balance. So the balancer is suspect, although it doesn't show signs of coming apart, the timing marks seem to correspond correctly...

My question is are these motors internally balanced? IE is the balancer and flywheel neutrally balanced? What are my options for aftermarket balancers? I'm assuming earlier 302 stuff doesn't interchange?

you'll need to go with the 50oz external balancer. I replaced mine with a non SFI piece from Pioneer and am really happy with it. Just a bit of advice........please DO NOT replace the stocker with another stocker!! I tried to cheap out and bought a Dorman balancer from AZ and that POS lasted all of 8 months.

Get a professional products 9007, that is the best bang for the buck on a VERY GOOD balancer

You did pretty good to get 8 months out of it. I bought a Dorman replacement, and it lasted all of 2 days.
So I decided to stop screwing around and got a Romac.

well I paid $110 after tax for mine, so for the whole "Price vs. Quality" issue I don't think you can go wrong with it. I have no experience with the PP balancer, but I think a couple other members on here have used them with success.

Romac is a fine hb

I've seen some say you can find them on ebay pretty cheap

Only thing I got against them is they can be difficult to install

I went with a Pioneer SFI hb

Nice hb
No spacer needed
No install hassles of A N Y kind
Just push in on and draw it up with the bolt

As others have said ... don't go for another OEM hb

No Kidding ... I've seen some buy 2 of them before they decided ....
enough is enough and moved to a quality hb.

IIRC ... I paid like 145 for mine a few years ago

btw ... That is like the one I went with

I take my little 95 to a bit over 6K for the red line and its held up fine

A little off topic but I thought some might be interested. I picked up a PP FPR a few weeks ago and it works great........only $65!

I don't like PP as I have seen some of their intake manifolds for many cars and found them to be sub par. I guess other people are having good luck with them and yea I havent heard anything bad about their balancers so to each his own. Me I like my aluminum Romac, pricey but sexy, accurate and very light. Matched with my aluminum flwheel my motor spins really freely.
