Because it won't work with out the spacer you NEED it. Thsi is the one

No spacer needed for my Pioneer. It just bolted right on.

Well the one I got:
Professional Products 6.4 inch Damper for 5.0/5.8L (50 oz)
says its product number 80007.

Professional Products 4-Bolt Spacer for 80000/90000 Series Dampers
This Spacer is Required for Professional Products Dampers
So I guess I need one.
