Just a quick and simple question. I just got a pair of used Drag Radials for FREE! Thats right, free. Thanks to someone i met at the track. He just got brand new Nitto 555r's and just gave me his old worn down BFG Drag Radials at no cost. The pic below shows the tread, theyre pretty worn and i just want to know if you think its worth a few runs, if so how many?

Run em till they are sparking, thats what I do. They usually hook better once they are broken in, so why the hell not try em?

BFGs wear down EXTREAMLY fast (around 3-4 grand a tire), so i say they have 200 Miles max. Give em a few runs...but dont expect them to be safe on the street after that.

BFG's don't have a whole helluva a lot more tread than that to start with. Don't drive with them in the rain even if they are new

BFG hook up better than Nittos though.

True, but if you dont have money and want a nice daily driven...drag tire...Nitto is the way to go.

3000 miles on a tire dosent do my wallet well.

Well im in the process of getting Nitto DR's I'm just wondering if these are worth the time mounting before i mount the Nittos. Cant wait tp try em out soon.

actually, i've been told by several people that the bfg's actually hook better when they are worn down i wouldn't trust those things on the street for very long at all though. I don't have any personal experience with them, but i'll let you know how my new nitto dr's do

Thanks all...Im definitely getting Nittos when im done with these....How are Nittos on the street? how long till i get them to wear out like these BFG's sitting in my garage?

Those hardly look worn out, closer to mid-life on those BFG's. Mount them on some cheap wheels for track racing days only. BFG's wear too fast for a daily driver, but are great for track days.

yea 300 bucks and 3 thousand miles isnt very nice on the wallet , thats why I have my BFGs on my old factory wheels and dont even drive them to the track I change them at the track LOL....

Not entirely true. I drove in the rain for 2 summers with my drag radials, with zero problems....until they got to looking like those look and then I got caught in a rain storm and went off the road (backwards) in a sudden rain storm. I was pushing my luck and I knew it.

Run those at the track only.

BFG's work the best the more they are worn. Bald BFG's are like slicks! Those don't look bad at all. Definetly be careful in the rain. Scary... I would put them on if they were free! Why not????

Truth: BFG's are identical in compound as ET streets this is why you get better hook the more rubber meets the track.

I have a set of BFG's that are at that level right now, mounted on steelies i change in 10 min. just before leaving for the track. I think the tires you have have about 3 trips to the track on them if you heat them up good before every run!!!!!! if you just lower pressure and do a quick clean off those could last a whole season.

Mine had 80% tread left when i bought them from a friend and now have about 10-20% like you, right now and i have done hard 5-8 second burns before every run and have about 30 passes on them myself.

don't bolt those on for daily use, they will be worthless in the rain and you can get ticketed for tires that bald, but for to and from the track those are perfect for a free set of DR's thank your friend alot, hell take him to Mcdonald's just to be nice.

BFG's are drag tires that are designed do well on the road
Nitto's are street tires that also double as good drag tires.
there is a reason all the competitive DR class pro's run BFG's
