Am going to put either a speed demon 650 or mighty demon 650 on my heavily modded 289. Wanted to know if anyone is using these and any likes/dislikes. Brian

I use a Barry Grant 650 (non Demon) and have been well satisfied.

Who made that silly post about demon's being the same as holley's. wtf?
one is in kentucky the other in georgia.
one is cast.
the other is milled out of a solid piece of billet aluminum. how can that possibly be in the same line?
the milling process is the reason many people find metal flashings in their fuel bowls and needle assemblies when it comes to demons.
three things to remember when buying a demon.
1-buy one with the idle eze
2-check their website for size/model recomendations. trust me, demons are ultra sensitve to the vacuum signal your engine will give.
3-inspect for those flashings.

I went from a Holley 650 dp to the Mighty Demon 650 and found it to be a major improvement on consistency, more power, easier starts, and smoother acceleration.

jasonn, I have two inline filters because the tank is original (48,000 original miles on the car by the way). I see a little trash in the filter nearest the tank but nothing in the one near the carb.

historic, I love my 650 demon on the Stang. No issues there.

mdjay, I agree the throttle reponse and power are much better with the demon than with the Holley that was on there.

My biggest complaint is the lack of service If you spend $300+/- on one of the cheaper carbs BG sells they could at least be more helpful. Offer to exchange it, or send it in for inspection, etc..., hell I'll pay the shipping, just make the damn thing work

dodgestang, what didi that carb run ya? How's the repairs coming along?

So many typical "I had trouble so I bought xxx carb and it ran perfectly" stories running around. Get a book on carburetors, preferably one made for your specific one. Read it, learn it. There's more to carb tuning than fidding with the idle mixture screws and changing gaskets. Notice that hardly anyone ever mentions which steps they've done to try and diagnose/fix the problems, other than just replacing it.

Unless your carb is warped, dropped, plugged with crap or something else that physically changed it's inner working properties, it will run to your liking if you tune it right. That's assuming you don't have vacuum leaks, ignition problems, wrong gearing, and other things that can cause drivability problems. All car/engine combos, especially modified ones, are different which makes it near impossible to make one carb you can just bolt-on and enjoy.

Now go and Google "carb tuning" before you buy another carb.

I have to agree with Blown 4.6, I have a Edelbrock 600 cfm carb on top of a mildly juiced 289 and my buddies mostly stock 289 with the 480 Carter walked away from me.

The Edelbrocks and Holleys are made for the engine, the engine was designed with the Carter. Go figure.

absolutely right, the engine build, transmission, driver, gears, etc, wouldnt have ANYthing to do with that. Its all carb.

My Speed Demon 650V has been running relatively well lately. I went 2 steps leaner on the jets on both the primary and secondary side, and played with pump cams.

It had a few hiccups when new (flooding float bowls and slight tip in stumble, same as a number of people had). But i'm definately not dissapointed that it wasn't "Perfect" out of the box, because I EXPECTED that I had to put some effort into tuning it.

I bet that most people who say their carb "worked perfect" out of the box (other than people who bought custom carbs), have a carb that's not giving them their full performance potential.

Great68, I wasn't expecting "perfect" out of the box, but reliable . I've tried tuning the carb to no success. I changed pump cams, always ending up back with what came with the carb, shooter sizes, jets, power valve, gaskets, fuel pump, etc.. I've checked the timing, mechanical and vacuum advance, ignition system, replace manifold gaskets (just in case), checked for vacuum leaks, etc.. I don't mind spending the time and effort to tune a car, that's part of what I enjoy about old cars and something you can't do as easily with a new one, but everything I've tried has produced no change.

ron67fb, I have three carb tuning books and have read every one at least twice, used the tech provided and still no results.

I understand, I wasn't talking about you specifically, I was speaking in general. There is no excuse for bad customer service and quality control.
