As mentioned in an earlier post, I have a motor from an 88 merkur. Sometime I'll get around to posting some pics, but as of right now its an assembled shortblock, everything else is off. My question is, should I replace the main/cap bearings or should I leave them alone? I plan on doing headwork down the line and it has been suggested that I would want to replace those to ensure the motor holds up to it.

On a related note, should I change out the piston rings too or should they be ok? The engine came from a wrecked Merkur, I believe it had ~85k miles on it. ...And if anyone cares, the problems with the former resident of the intake side of the turbo have been taken care of.

yup, it's never a bad idea to throw in new bearings and rings. Just be sure to do it the right way, with lube, and measuring clearances, ect.

Sweet, cheaper than I thought too. Are these numbered or does order matter with these? I'm guessing taking the felpro gasket is a worthwhile upgrade or should I just go for the 1037 (or is that excessive for a non race application?)?
