I believe that if you never tell the dealer about the mods, they'll never know. My experience is that the only person that knows the least little bit about the car is the mechanics and thats not always so. I have an extended waranty.....and like I said, I'll make them refun my money for that bitch if they screw me like they screw you. I've got 34 thou on my oringinal waranty, which leaves me 2 to go.

Besides......GEF Racing is just down the road

KirkyG, please don't respond.

I have been leasing cars/trucks for 30 years and know the benifits and dissadvantages very well. There are many instances that leasing is quite adventageous and others it does not make sense. Do what you think is best for yourself, and don't argue with people.

Back to your problem, what reason was given for Ford to come out and look at your car in the first place? Normally, the service department makes the initial call whether to perform warranty work or not, not Ford. If the dealer decides not to do the work, this is when Ford steps in and backs up the dealer, unless there is a catastrophic failure.

There only two reasons I can see Ford giving you a hard time, is they do not want to remove your exhaust system to do the work, seeing they will be held responsible for it if there is damage during removal and re-install or re-installing it incorrectly. The other reason might be the Ford Credit issue, seeing they are the legal owner of the vehicle and do not feel they gave you the right to mod the car in any way.

I thinks Mr. Jason Keay is blowing smoke up your backside. He knows more then he is saying.

The reason headoffice came over was because of my previous warranty claims. 2 Trannies. The first one NEEDED to be replaced (22000km and it was seriously screwed). I brought in the car 2 months after with concerns about 2second gear grind... They replaced the tranny, but I was told after by a friend working on the inside, the mechanic broke the original tranny trying it out (after opening it up and fixing it) and decided to get a replacement... Funny part is another mechanic bought the supposedly broken tranny for $100 and fixed it for $45. Not so funny after all when I see my warranty being denied today.

I think fords 36K mile warranty sucks. I put 30K miles on my stang the first year. Right after I hit 37K miles, the throw out bearing squeeks. I'd still rather drive my mustang than a hyundai with a 100K warranty.

Warranty does suck anyway & I think every good Mustang owner should know how to do most of their own work & have a good mechanic for those times when they either don't know how to fix/mod something or don't want to fix/mod something.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAH THAT IS UNBELIEVABLE. This board really is truly a waste of time. We have guys on here talking about the wonders of leasing...coming now from people who lease cars themselves. Maybe you've been ripping people off so long you believe that it isn't really ripping them off.

btw, NEVER EVER slap someone in the face and then ask them not to respond. What a pitiful waste of time.

Ford is getting bad about this in the US as well. I was told by the guy who does my work at a dealer here that it would be in my best interest to remove what mods I can when I bring the car in. This means swapping back in the stock shifter, stock air filter, air intake, ect... The reasoning is just in case someone besides him or one of his techs looks at the car, they are required by Ford to put all my mods into a computer data base that was started at the end of '03.
This is happening at every dealership in the US. Regardless if you know it or not, if you have taken your car in for something most dealers have the database and they are required to input this in. Unless you are cool with your service guy or was recommended a service guy from a speed shop like I was that will look after you, you are setting yourself up to get screwed if you take your car in with mods.
Its the risk we pay for modding our cars. We cant expect Ford to roll over and loose money when there are people who race at the track with their car, break an axle, then take it in for warrenty work . At the same time they get lucky and get their car fixed, there are others like above that get ripped since they put exhaust on their cars.
Its a business people, and they want to make money like everyone else. So be it if they loose a couple buyers along the way. The money they will make charging people to fix repairs not under warrenty will vastly outweigh the money lost from a few potential/lifelong buyers.
I love Mustangs, and I will try to always have a few , but I know how people are about money, so I dont expect to have an easy fight if I try to get something done under warrenty.

Kirky. like I said, I wish you would never have responded, since you run your fingers on the keyboard quicker then you could comprehend a sentence.

I WILL SAY THIS OUT LOUD FOR YOU. I DO NOT OWN OR HAVE EVER OWNED A LEASING COMPANY!!!!

I have owned 9 cars in my life, and have leased 18 cars and trucks for myself, my mother and my business over the past 30 years. You have no clue what the benefits or negatives are concerning leasing both in true $$$ value and tax benifits. You do not know how to get the best out of a lease.

Now STFU and and take your thumb and forefinger and twittle your little weiner.

Sorry to the rest of the board, but this guys is truly a piece of work . . . a clueless piece of work.

Lizzard It is those two trannies that did you in. They were looking for a reason to flag you after that. Best thing to do is put it behind you and get it fixed on your dime. The agg. you are already going through over $100.00 or so just ain't worth it.

I know it is easy for me to say, but I threw my warranty out the door 2 weeks into owning my last new GT.

Best of luck in whatever happens.

Lizard King,

Off topic, but are you in Ottawa? I've been to Jim Keay a few times to just look at the stangs (can't afford a 99+ yet, still saving). Seems like a good dealer, but I guess not. Thanks for the info about the warranty, I'll be sure to avoid them in the future. Good luck in your situation.

it's already done man. I put some 3.73s at the sametime. I have turned the page. New resolution ... mod the living hell out of my stang, and upgrade parts everytime they break.

I just needed to turn the page. Sorry it was so public.

kirkyg I am not going try and convince you a lease is better than a finance/purchase ... you obviously know everything and have gone through this option before. We are really stupid, and I apologize for even mentioning the word lease. The government should interveen make this 'leasing' stuff illegal. Afterall it is a well known fact it is such a ripp off.

Seriously though, you are a deprived individual. You need to adjust yourself man. Advice is free. No one is forcing their ideas on you. Take what you want, and leave what you don't want. It is true that in most scenarios, financing is a better option. Not in my case - far from there.

Yeppers Ottawa. PulmeOvr. I know this licence plate. Jim Keay is good dealership... unfortunatly they have a numbnut for service manager, and Ford is changing the rule book on them.

Do yourself a favor and save the trouble of getting a 'warrantied' car. Buy used (even one year old) and the money you saved over a new car... keep it for service work in case the warranty doesn't work out.

It was a comment on Ford having to follow US rules in another country. Just doesn't happen.

Ford seems to be going down the hole everyday. A friend of mines, father has all his high performance work done by the dealer on his leased Zo6 and there isn't a problem. The last thing he got done to the Zo6 was a cam and the car is still under warranty.

This is my opinion when buying a Ford. Buy it and never bother bring it back to the dealer. This is because either they you void your warranty or mess your car up. Just my 2 cents on that.

lol. By today's conversion, this would mean that my verywell equiped mustang cost me $22.5K US and that my lease payments are in the $450 area.

I'm gonna sound like a sell out but I'd like for Canada to be more privatised like the states. The Canadian goverment controls to many things, that should be run more like a business and much less like defficient gvt program. Allthough your current's president's foreign policies are somewhat questionable. Even the freetrade agreement is being re-written at your advantage right now in a large way. Adding taxes on our wood and paper is killing some of smaller northern towns in the country. ...and all we do is take it in that ass.

Well lizardking, wish you good luck with your warranty problem.
As far as i m concern, my dealer is very mod friendly. he s even done my gear swap. He asked me if i had the car drop when i go for service and after i said yes, he said " ok then we ll used the platform lift to avoid any damage on the bumper with the conventional lift.

As far as leasing goes, i leased cars for near 10 years before i got the stang. I did so because there s a real avantage of leasing a car when you get tax deduction by using a car for your job. IMO, the advantage stop there. And for thinking buying the car at the end of the lease, well here in canada, you get to pay both tax on the residual value. This is money you lose if you plan to sell the car right after you bought it. Leasing is not what it used to be. Residual value reflect the market now. In 1997, a honda dealer gave me 4000$ more then the residual value on a integra 95 and paid Acura for the amount of the residual. That was 4000$ in my pocket

Looks like your dealer made a case with you lizard

Good luck

These modifications include visual & performance. In my case an exaust modification is voiding my rear-end warranty. Doesn't make much sense.

I believe there is a line of reasoning Ford is using, is that if one is making performance mods to your Mustang, one must be taking advantage of those mods, and therefore, technically "abusing" your car. If Ford believes one is abusing their car, they can void the warranty. There doesn't have to be a direct link between the mod, and the part which broke. If one is abusing the car, then any resulting breakage is related to the mods at a higher, more abstract, level.

This isn't just Ford. D-Chrysler will void the warranty (or try to) on a "trail rated" Jeep if they find the owner has been driving it off-road (I mean Rubicon type of stuff... the stuff in their own commercials).

I am not saying that Ford is right for doing this, but on the other hand, I am sure Ford has had Mustang owners who have actually abused their cars (racing, dragging, etc), and tried to get free warranty repairs afterward. Possibly even removing the mod before bringing the car into a dealer. All it takes it just one Mustang owner to pull something like that, and for it to get some high-level attention, that it ruins it for everyone.

There was an Act enabled (not sure the name of it, if you really want it, dig around on google), there has to be proof that the modification is what made the part malfunction. Manufactureers can say what they want and tell you what they want, but if you argue the case and have proof of the Act on hand, they have to cover it.

I had problems with my truck and had a home made intake set up, they did not void my warrenty even though they could have told me that the mod voided my warrenty.

Those who do not know the law get screwed.

eh, i didnt get a warranty due to the reason its useless and theyll find every way they can to not have to do it.

for the price you pay for a warranty+interest over the time of your loan(if financing), whatever needs to be fixed couldve been paid for twice.

if something goes wrong, i can usually find a forum like this to help me. if its something that i cant fix, ill take it to a specialist. if a rear end is whining, ill take it to a rear end shop. if my tranny is going out, ill just buy a new one and have a mom-pop tranny shop replace it.

ford is really ****ing themselves in the ass. theyre making it to where nobody is going to buy their cars, cause they obviously dont give a rats ass about the enthusiasts. i guess they want every mustang on the road to be as stock as it came from the lot, cause they think that stock is best i guess, and everyone should drive boring ass stock cars. if it comes to this, ill never buy a ford again, and piss on every car at the lot, which will require lots of gatorade.

even though its the people who drive the ****ty cars like taurus, focus, explorer/expedition who drive balls to the wall everywhere, drive over **** and abuse their cars, while most of us with nice modded cars baby the **** out of them

then whats the point of getting a warranty? if you pay for a warranty you bought a service, and it doesnt matter how you use it, it should be available to you, when you need it. its like "i paid in advance for you guys to fix my car, and now youre not going to do that? sounds like fraud to me". then again, everything is ****ing fraud nowadays, the system is so ****ed up its unbelieveable how many companies get away with the bull**** they do.

and what happens if you pay an extra 2k for a warranty, and they void you? do you get that money back?
