It looks like some dealers are user friendly and some take no prisoners.Mine (Schlenker Ford) in Hamburg Pa. has been a real pleasure to deal with.I was on my own with mods..but the warranty items remained covered. Like eveyone stated find a mod friendly dealer.
There was an Act enabled (not sure the name of it, if you really want it, dig around on google), there has to be proof that the modification is what made the part malfunction. Manufactureers can say what they want and tell you what they want, but if you argue the case and have proof of the Act on hand, they have to cover it.
I had problems with my truck and had a home made intake set up, they did not void my warrenty even though they could have told me that the mod voided my warrenty.
And what you mention is only 1/2 of that law; the consumer friendly part.
The other 1/2 of that same law, allows manufacturers to completely, 100%, void the entire warranty if there is any evidence of abuse. "Racing" (in any form including informal street racing) is considered abuse. The manufacturer can use hi performance mods as all the evidence they need to show abuse (if you made hi performance mods, you must be using them, no?).
You are right you should know the law. But you need to know the entire law to be prepared.
then whats the point of getting a warranty? if you pay for a warranty you bought a service, and it doesnt matter how you use it, it should be available to you, when you need it. its like "i paid in advance for you guys to fix my car, and now youre not going to do that? sounds like fraud to me". then again, everything is ****ing fraud nowadays, the system is so ****ed up its unbelieveable how many companies get away with the bull**** they do.
and what happens if you pay an extra 2k for a warranty, and they void you? do you get that money back?
As to if you can get your money back, you need to read the warranty contract, and see if what you already agreed to in that respect. If you already agreed to "no money back/refunded if voided due to abuse...", then that, unfortunately, is that.

High performance mods can no more be used as evidence of racing than simply owning a gun is evidence of robbing banks. The question is are you prepared to pay court cost to fight it. Now driving into the dealer with melted rubber off the drag strip stuck to rear quater panels is a different story. Bottom line, is if you expect warranty work on a modded car, find a mod friendly dealer, they are out there.
They ripped apart the engine, replaced ALL the lifters under warranty.
Then, the noise came back. Brought it back, did a diagnostic again, and they said the engine was overreved. The engine was overrevved? in the time they changed the lifters and i brought it back? (2 weeks)
Gave em hell, they had no proof that it was overreved (it wasnt)
but the main office of yuppies red flagged my engine warranty and that was that, I was stuck with a **** engine, no mods, and an office full of yuppy ****s llaughing about it. **** BMW!!!
This kinda crap has been going on for a long time and its not just Ford. When I started Modding my car I understood the problems with trying to get warranty work done. Most if not all manufactorers have these clauses. I know Jeep which advertises the Wrangler as being "Trail Rated" voids its warranty if you cross 6" deep water.
