I have been battleing this this belt chirp/squeal problem with my 04 GT ever since I swapped to a 8rib setup w/ my vortech about a year ago. I have replace every idler pulley, the tensioner and I am on my 5th belt (4 gates, 1 dayco). The chirp has now come back it will make the noise until the car warms up and it gradually goes from a chirp to a squeal. The only other problem I see is the belt overlaps the shoulder of the small idler pulley next to the alternator. It is a 6 rib pulley and I cant replace it with a 8 rib pulley due to clearance issues. Has anyone else had this problem with there vortech setup?

You said you replaced the tensioner. By that did you mean that you replaced the complete tensioner assembly or just the tensioner pulley?

Also, does it only chirp above a certain RPM?

I replaced the entire assembly with a dayco aftermarket tensioner. But it looks like the dayco tensioners are aluminum and the recomendation is the steel ones since the aluminum ones bend.

temporary fix

my 5.0 did the same thing but It just took 4 times to the store for the right size belt, change the pullys and then finaly I just through some sylocone on that
B!%@&. thats just a temporary fix and yes the crap will get everywhere but it stops that anoying chirp for a good while.
