belt slipping?

When I shift hard into 3rd I can hear something squeak under the hood. I'm thinking it's the belt. what can be done about this and is it hurting any thing? BTW it didn't start till after the shifter install. Shifting only into 3rd from 2nd hard causes the squeak.

how many miles? i would just replace it

Before I bought my car, I drove a couple others that would make the belt squeal when nailing 3rd really hard (mine did too). My belt still doesn't appear to be worn, although it could have all 46,000 miles on it, so I probably need a new one anyway. Shortly after buying the car, I installed Steeda underdrive pullies. No more belt squeal.
