I got an 01 gt, 35000 miles, auto, I just got it, I'm not very smart when it comes to working on cars I'm hoping to change that with this one but anyway when I'm on it when it shifts into 3rd the belt squeaks, is that normal or something I need to worry about, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Don't make fun of me too bad for not knowing much about cars yet.

i'm assuming you mean it squeaks when you are full-throttle and shifts to 3rd. I have the same problem. It's a normal problem, and probably not much you can do about it. It's happens because when the tranny shifts, the engine speed rapidly decreases, which in turn attempts to decrease the belt and accessory speeds. It's actually the alternator causing the squeak, the rotating field in the alternator is quite heavy and when the belt attempts to slow the alt from 10,000 or so RPM down to say 6,000 or so in less than 1/2 second, it slips.

on the Police use Crown Vic's they use an alternator with a one way clutch built into the alt pulley, that way the belt won't get tore up from all the high speed shifting and slipping of the belt.

Yes it is normal but it can be greatly minimized with a gator belt.

you could also purchase a $450.00 alt that fits an '03 or so Crown Vic Police Package.

but if I were you I think I could live with trying a different belt and dealing with it.
