Bending the drive straps on a pressure plate!!

Has anyone else had this problem??? its happened on the street both times clutch is rated for 600hp hi rev clutch kit that i bought from promotion when i bought the tranny. 347 probably 500hp N/A. when it bends the straps it keeps it from properly seating back on the flywheel and kicks it out of balance.

how old is that clutch?? looks like you have a few good burn marks on it.

The drive strap should be an even ‘S’ shape. It is designed to transmit power
from the cover to the pressure plate and subsequently the clutch disc. Distortion
will cause clutch Drag, harsh clutch operation and clutch Judder.

This is normally caused by:
Incorrect bolting sequence used during cover fitment, damage caused during
improper alignment of the disc,or dropping the cover prior to fitment.
If all the drive straps have a similar degree of distortion, the cover may have
suffered a severe shock during operation from poor driver technique.
(e.g. Selecting the wrong gear at speed, towing heavy loads, driving with
severe clutch Judder or with loose engine mountings.

the clutch has a summer of friday nights at the track. And all the correct procedures were followed during installation.believe I will fall back to a center force clutch .

Foxbodymike87 or adams91lx have you ever had this happen to you ?

Ive never seen that happen but Adams reasoning is correct, Id look into a SPEC Stage 2 for that set-up. Have you contacted Walt at Promotion?

It is interesting however, that only 1 of 3 of the straps have been bent up so badly.

...or not. What's the combo? What kind of torque numbers are you making? What RPM are you dumping the clutch at?

If in fact, you're causing that kind of damage from launching, then it may be time to step up to a multi-disk setup.

BTW, a clutch rated at "600 HP" doesn't really mean anything. How much torque is it rated to hold? How much torque are you making? What tires are you running?

Your pics of the face of the pressure plate look like that thing has been slipped brutally so.... heavier PP or multi-disk.

heres a link to the clutch i have towards the middle the yellow "hi rev" 550hp.
This is the clutch Wally w/promotion said i needed when i told him my combination.

Promotion G force T5

I have a 347 solid roller shifting at 7k.

Aluminum flywheel

And for cool points i do have a " Quick time bellhousing" I have to tell someone.

launching at 4-5k.


265 drag radials has never dead hooked .

I have done the damage to the face of the pressure plate by slipping the clutch playing with my 60 foots . But have never had any problems with the clutch slipping.

If you're doing that to clutches, I hope that QT bellhousing is a scatter shield!

With the high rpm you may want to try a alum pressure plate set-up from SPEC, we used them in NMRA Pure Street, nice light weight that spins smooth! They have a lot of options...

Id still put a call into Walt at Pro Motion he may give you some insight as to what is going on, the guy knows his stuff. Ive only delt with one of those yellow hi-Rev hightq clutches but the only issue we had was a chatter that wouldnt go away after break in. Otherwise it held 525hp and 500tq with no issues
