probably a dumb question but i have mobil 1 5w30 synthetic and platinum plugs. would i gain any power or anything from switching to royal purple synthetic oil and copper plugs? what are the benifits of each?

ive heard that royal purple is good initally but it tends to thin out and offer less protection after 750-1000 miles. copper plugs are better i think. plus they are cheap to replace.

you arent gonna gain any power from oil and spark plugs...

stick with mobil 1 and copper plugs and save yourself some cash...

I could give you an answer if only I knew how RP compares to Mobil1. If I had to take a guess, I'de say RP would out perform Mobil1 and as for the plugs, I'm running Motorcraft awsf-c12's in my car with no problems at all. They are two steps colder than stock and they seem to work pretty good. Remember, a colder plug is basically less resistant to electrical charge which means it's going to fire a bit quicker and easier than a normal plug so a colder plug that is 1-2 steps colder would probably work good for you. I say give them both a try and see what you think.

okay a little math:

RP is like $27 a oil change, and mobil 1 is $18

you save almost $10 a oil change by using mobil 1... and say you change your oil once a month... thats $120 a year you saved in using mobil 1

NGK platinums are $7 a piece, Autolite coppers are $1.28

tahts $56 for plat plugs, and $10.24 for copper.... you save $46 each time using copper... say you change your plugs 4 times a year, thats $184 u saved there...

so by using mobil 1 (which is a excellent motor oil, and perfectly good enough for you) and Autolite copper plugs (which work excellent, and are good enough also) you are gonna save a little over $300 a year..... and you can get a lot more hp using that money elsewhere...

well i would hope that someone didnt change their plugs 4 times a year. the average schedule ive heard is oil every 3 months and plugs once a year. not if you use an oil like amsoil you can change it once a year.

Its worth a try. BTW, if you wanted to save more money, go to Amsoil full synthetic and change your oil once a year or every 25k miles and do a filter change every 6mo./12k miles, which ever comes first.

bottom line, you wont gain any horsepower from plugs unless there is something wrong with your old one(s). and I've heard royal purple farts out towards the end. I use mobile 1 and change it often due to my extreme beating on my engine

for oil i use what it says in the manual and on the filler cap which is 5w-20. If mobil made full synthetic 5w-20 i would put it in because yes it is cheaper. But they dont make it so I use redline 5w-20 synthetic. the cost difference is negligable compared because I know that i'm putting the right stuff in.

mobil 1 does make an authorised 5w20. its their 0w20, if you read that label it says that its for use in vehicles that specify 5w20, including ford and honda.
