That would be the one available at your local Ford parts counter for $49

This is what I am going to be using for my 2001 GT Auto. I am still piecing everything together and hope to install it some time this summer.

$45.88

If you want to monitor the temperature you are also going to need some way to install a sending unit as well as the gauge and necessary parts to install it.

I am using an Autometer temperature manifold to mount the sending unit.

$35.99

For a gauge and sending unit, I am using Dakota Digital pieces.

$79.95-gauge, $10.95-sending unit

To mount the gauge I am going to use an Autometer instrument cluster bezel.

$70.95

Do you have to tap the pan to install that or no? I would do it if it didnt involve tapping the pan.

Nope, I am using a temperature manifold from Autometer to install the sending unit. You just put it in the line.

Here is an article of a tranny cooler install using the temperature manifold above.

I purchased a HAYDEN tranny cooler for $49.95 and it works well. I think they also make the FORD tranny cooler?

That link with the install pictures was perfect...

Now what line is the hot return?

The one on the top. or bottom of the radiator?

I am not 100% sure about this but, most sources seem to indicate that the fluid flows from the tranny to the lower radiator connection and then up the radiator to the top connector and back to the transmission. This never made sense to me as I thought it would be better flowing down. Maybe the fluid would flow too fast through the cooler if it went from top to bottom

You want to monitor the fluid temperature before the radiator on the bottom line and cool the fluid after it comes out of the radiator at the top line.

The quote below is from the A/T - Cooler Flushing Service Tips page for the 2001 Ford Mustang GT on www.alldata.com. I believe the data comes straight from the Ford service manual.

A quick way to identify the return cooler line (fluid coming out of the cooler and returning to the transmission) is to locate the return cooler line fitting on the transmission case. Refer to the following lists:

Rear Wheel Drive
^ TORQSHIFT, 4R100, E40D, C6 - The REAR transmission case filling receives the return line.

^ 4R70W, AODE, AOD - The TOP transmission case filling receives the return line.

^ A4LD, 4R44/55E, 5R55E, 5R55N, 5R55W, 5R55S

According to this info if you follow the top line from the transmission case to the transmission cooler in the radiator it confirms that the top line is the return line from the cooler to the transmission.

Another vote for the B&M 24000. One company makes pretty much all of them.

If you want to go all out I refer you here- http://forums.modulardepot.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37033&highlight=transmission+cooler

I installed a sending unit in both trans lines and have them wired to a spdt on/on switch so I can see what the temps are both before and after the cooler with the flip of a switch.

In a private, romantic setting. Make sure soft music is playing and you have a bubble path poured.

Sorry, had to.....

That one listed in modulardepot forums looks nice. If I use the mach 1 grille delete It almost looks like an intercooler.

Now the trick is to use the russell fittings and hose to make it look nice. I'm going to try and see what part numbers are involved.
