Best bang for your buck besides gears? Exhaust questions too..

Do you know the current Smog laws in CA? I know cats are required so off road X/H pipes will fail you. But can you pass with catted X/H pipes and shorty headers? What about cat back exhausts? God I hate CA...why can't emissions die?!?!?! :nonono:

if the place where ou go is strict with emissions then you will automaticly fail in some places if all aftermarket parts don't have a C.A.R.B E.O # then you are screwed but some are friendly just depends where you go. they will let a cat back slide but a mid pipe it's a depends how strict, intakes t/b and plenums forget about it. Some S/C's that have the E.O are ok. Dont worry you are like all other cali people that hate emissions.....:(

I guess I'll have to find those C.A.R.B exhaust parts then...do you know if tuners are allowed?

check out www.pypesexhaust.com if i remember right their mini cats pass the sniffer as good if not better than stock, i would get an offroad h pipe and then cut out pipe on each side for the cats. 130 for a mac h and 120-150 for cats is not bad for a cattedh pipe. only problem is finding a shop too touch it. and 50k or damaged cats you can replace the stock converters

Yea my car has 63k miles on it so I'm pretty sure a X/H pipe with cats will pass. I'm just stumped about finding headers that have a C.A.R.B. sticker?

Where is a good place to buy exhaust online?

Yeah, 20hp would be a high estimate probably, but fairly close. The shorty's might only give you 2 or 3 though....alot of money and work for little power that you'll actually see. Beefin' up the intake with a CAI, TB and plenum is probably worth 10-15hp too?!? Correct me if I'm wrong guys. I've seen some dyno's showing really big gains off decals and fuzzy dice :hail2:

Hotmustang has a bunch of boltons and more and gets about 300rwhp N/A.

how about an intake spacer?
is it even needed if you upgrade the tb and plenum, or would it help out the combination?

I don't know anything personally about an intake spacer, but I've read mixed reviews on them, some saying they're worth it when you add the TB and plenum, others saying it doesn't make a difference.

Maybe someone on here has more personal experience with this?

Well maybe i'm old school, but pulleys USED to be considered a proven mod around here. They did as much or more than my plenum tb combo, they cost less AND THEY SAVE YOU GAS SO THEY PAY FOR THEMSELVES IN NO TIME!!!!!!!!

I dont know why every NA car doesnt buy Steeda pulleys immediately. Fixed my belt squeeking on shifts too!:D

there are basically a few mods that work besides a power adder

1)midpipe
2)gears
3)pullies
4)plenum and TB
5)tune

headers, heads, cams are definately big gainers but are a level above the list of made.

that makes a quick car with a little bit of weight reduction and good driving, but dont expect to feel a difference like you did with the gears, but you will see gains if you are a dragstrip regular
