Colder air from the fenderwell ???faspony said:For the point of argument, I'll bet I'm making as much RWHP as you are with my cheepo S&B filter.![]()
After all I'm pulling colder air from the fender well than you are from under the engine compartment.![]()
what a joke.. I guess you didn't take a very good look at that very small opening in the fenderwell did you ?? Unless your willing to hack up and cut a larger hole?? that small bit of colder air your referring to won't make a single bit of difference in HP performance..As for cold air intakes pulling in hotter air is concerned ?? There's a reason why most come with heat shields.. at least there's more of an opening underneath the engine compartment for cooler air to reach the air filter, than your stock airbox which has the airfilter completley boxed in..Therefore, not only do you lose your point of argument, but you'll also lose your bet as well, hands down..Perhaps you should take a look at this...http://www.mustang50magazine.com/techarticles/m5lp_0601w_cold_air_intake/

Will your crap be better than theirs?I have a dyno print out with 309rwhp on it. All I had was the JLT II CAI and the dyno tune. That is above and beyond what most on this board expected. You read one article on an after-market part and go buy it you are flirtin with a major let down. But when you do your research and get some feed back from people on mustang forums I would think you could whittle down what is right for you. But hey what do I know!!faspony said:Very interesting reading, do you always believe everything you read?
If there is one thing I have learned over the years of installing after market parts is that they seldom do all they claim to do. I wish they did, I would feel a lot better about all the money I spent in the past for junk that didn't do what it claimed to do.![]()
As for the heat shield, it's about as affective as most barriers in non-smoking areas. Some how the smoke doesn't understand it is not supposed to go over that little piece of glass seperating the two rooms. The same is true of that heat shield, it doesn't understand it is not supposed to go around or over the shield.![]()
Even my factory air box gets hot and therefore I am losing power as well, but I'm still not sucking in hot air. As for the little opening letting the air in from the fenderwell, that can be improved on by modifing the air box and running a larger hose from the air box into the fenderwell. In fact I am working doing just that.
I don't mean to crap on your cold air system, but I still don't think they are with the money. The only reason these after market guys put together these little pieces of pipe an a cone air filter is because it is the cheepist why to design a system. What they charge us for this crap is a crime in my words.
If they wanted to design something worth while they should put together a system that does draw air from the fenderwell. A system that replaces the stock air box and has the filter in the fenderwell. This is the cold air system I had on my 97 GT and it worked great. I guess I will have to design my own and maybe I'll market it for a fair price.

First of all, did you read the article I posted ?? And to answer your question, when it comes to marketing and advertising claims you often read about?? No I don't believe in any of them..However there's a very huge difference between vendors pitching false advertising claims compared to one of the top 20 SCT tuners in the US who conducted an independant comparison of 11 different cold air intakes both with and without tuning, in addition if you look at the very last page of the article you'll also notice that MD motorsports who conducted the testing lists both his website and phone number along with each of the cold air kits that were tested...Although I can agree that if a system was designed that would draw colder air from the fenderwell ? I'd be all for it..But on the other hand, you'll discover for yourself that most of us forum members are not willing to risk cutting large holes in the fenderwell's of their brand new cars for just a few more HP. (myself included) it's just not worth it...Therefore, until either yourself or somebody else happens to come up with a better design ?? my fellow forum members along with myself, will continue on with our current cold air and tuner packages that have been proven time and time again, to produce the best performance results..end of storyfaspony said:Very interesting reading, do you always believe everything you read?

BTW, even if you could run a larger hose into the fenderwell, what would that accomplish ?? you would still have to cut a larger hole in the fenderwell, in order to gain any real benefit anyhow..

have they made a plug in extension for the MAF sensor yet?kooldawg6 said:One of the reasons I have been looking at the Westin Motorsports CAI is because of its design. The air filter sits directly in front of the throttle body so there is no bends in hose to restrict airflow. PLus they sell an optional pan that isolates the filter from the heat under the hood. It has openings at the front that lets air come in directly from the front of the hood. To me that would be much easier and better way of getting "cold" air to the engine without coming through the fender and through a tube surrounded by engine heat.

I'd really like to know where all this so called extra airflow is coming from ?? If it's going through the upper grill ? , I just don't see how that much airflow is able to pass through first the grill itself, then through the A/C condensor and finally the radiator..Maybe it's just me ? or I'm just missing something?? but if anyone wouldn't mind explaning how this CAI is any better than the current top proven cold air sytems ?? I'm all ears.. I'm also with Bigcat on whether or not a plug n play harness is available ?? I for one, will not cut my factory wiring and I'm sure that most of you, also feel the same way..radtexas said:![]()
I had emailed Shannon @ WMS mid August and asked about that. Here is the transcript.
Me:
I read some concerns in some forums about having to cut wires. Is this still a problem or has it been fixed.
Shannon:
Wires do need to be lengthened but
everything is included in the kit. We were concerned about this at
first but have not had one customer with a problem on install.
Still sounds like they are cut but like she said that is included. Hard to want to cut those factory wires though.
Maybe you can use those splice clips that straddle tboth wires without having to splice them directly together? At least if you did that no wires would have to be cut directly. Not sure exactly what those splice clips are called though.
Added on edit:
I do like the idea and setup they have. Although it is different from other CAI's it is a smarter looking design. Excluding the wire issue I wish there was a way to measure the true HP gain of the Ram Air over the other CAI's. The run test they do with stock and with Ram Box is impressive. Gaining 1.31 seconds on the 50-100mph over the stock.
However, I asked this to Shannon just a minute ago in email. Have they did any run tests against the other major CAI's out there like JLT, C&L, Steeda to see if the Ram Air increase is better than the top CAI's out there?
I am curious about her reply.
With WMS Ram Air and tune from their numbers you get 27-29 hp for $787 if you go with the factory seconds heat shield.
With Steeda they claim you get up to 38hp (with complete CAI kit) for around $700.
But since the actual RAM Air benifit can not be measured on dyno what if any increase might there be when driving over the others.![]()
