Best Headers

Hey Guys, whats up. Looking for the best headers, looking for power for my notch. My friend says BBK, I was thinking mac. All your opinions, and advice wanted.

+1 bbk longtubes, you dont have to remove the steering shaft to install them like the mac ones.

BBK are good, i've got BBK ceramic LT's but want to step up to bassani LT's i've heard the really good..

i've had mac equal an unequal shorties, and jba's. i thought the jba's were the best quality an the equals made the most power. i had to get another set of macs when i got my p heads. the equals were used an heat warped so it was a bit3h getting them on, the p headers were new an fit really well.

Macs will always be a bitch, they don't have a one peice mounting flange to the head so if you ever have to remove them, good luck with putting them back on. I have summit racing brand headers, I paid 140 and they dropped right in!

Basically longer the more performance.... The general consensous is that summit is the cheapest reliable brand u can buy and macs are a bitch to put on the first time, and will never go back on if u take them off. Cermaic coated is the way to go to keep the engine cooler. You need one piece flanges as grey said.

BBK are junk. Mac are junk.

Now if you can deal with a header leak here, holes not lining up there... than pay a small price for these headers and deal with them or fix them.

You get what you pay for but if you are on a budget, go with the BBK. Mine sometimes seal than sometimes don't. The welds on em are about the worse I've seen (the flange face is something to be less than desired).

For $160, you can't expect a perfect header though...

I don't know what hes talking about.... Anyway, I had BBK shorty unequal ceramics, they look brand new after 2 years. They fit perfect, didn't leak. Now i went to BBK Longtube ceramics. Also awesome. I'd buy bbk everytime. And yes, but cermaic.

The problem with the BBK's is that it has a "Ball Joint" on the collector to hook up to the mid-pipe which reduces it's size thus negating power. Minimum you should enlarge the opening to the mid-pipe the most that you can. The quality and fitment are very good as others stated but hang a little low under the car for my taste.

MAC's are JUNK. PERIOD!!!

If I was building a "Class-Specific" car then I would go with LT's, other than that I would just stick with a good pair of ceramic shorties like FFRP's and a good x-pipe.

I run Macs, like them.

The best, not sure if they make them for fox's but Kooks makes some of the best headers around. $$$$$ though.

BBKs are good, worse for ground clearance than Mac from what I have seen.

Kooks does make them for a FOX and they make great power, but they hang REAL LOW.
Here's my buddies 86 GT with Kooks headers. Look at how low they are.

He just took them off his car yesterday to make room for the new turbo headers for his twin 72's!

BBK FTL

I have had nothing but trouble out of everything I have bought from them.
Two sets of headers and two clutch cables. The only thing that hasn't given me a probablem is the FPR.

I will never buy anything BBK again.

holy crap thats low!the only trouble ive had with bbk is when i did my swap i need to move my steering shaft over cause it was too close,it was easy though.i loosened up the four bolts under the dash,pulled the wheel to the passenger side of the car and presto an instant half inch with no issue.i really havent had any trouble since i stopped using mac crap,i swear its made in some shady welding shop in mexico by 12 year olds.

i like my BBKs. i have shorty equal lengths and a BBK O/R X-pipe. ive unbolted and rebolted everything up so many times i cant count but it always goes back together leak free and i like the way it sounds.

+1 for BBK. if i ever go long tube ill be getting BBKs.

I have always used them and they are of excellent quality for shorties.

Does FRPP even make LTs?

The BBKs my friend has seem to hang very low on his car, my Macs tuck up real tight. That and doing a starter on my Mac equipped car is a breeze, he claimed he can't do it without taking the header out. The Macs are harder to install, and usually have issues with bolts backing out (I have one right now backed out after the track), but for the price and the clearance I loved them.

I've also never had a problem with mine the 100 times I took them on and off. All I'm saying is BBK are GREAT for the money. But the title of the thread asked for the best header and I would just recommend something else like Stainless Works, Bassani, Hooker, FRPP, etc.

I would prob buy BBK again but they do need work. I know for a fact my flange isn't perfectly straight and if you look at the welds for the primaries in the flange, they blew out some of the metal on the flange face and only a small area is actually making a seal in a few spots. I finally ended up using Percy's Aluminum gaskets with copper RTV to seal it up.

I havn't had a problem until recently which is when I decided to investigate and wasn't too happy about the quality after really checking them out good. The only problem is, good headers are $$$$ which is why your best bet is to go with BBK and if they need some attention, you still paid a good amount less than the other brands.
