there are a lot of cold air intakes out there.... i was wondering which one you guys think are the best. i heard that the plastic intakes are better because of heat issues. so which one is the best bang for the buck? id like to know how the numbers looked on the dyno too.

the e-bay one's for 40$ you won't notice any difference between any cold air intake and the stock one with a k&n and the silencer removed....save your money and get a cheap one their all the same.

I agree. I got mine from ebay for like $20 and the shipping was a killer at $25. But still for $45. You can't beat it.

I believe the K&N FIPK is supposed to be one of the better ones.. at least it is on the 4.6 side.. I'm sure it's the same here.

I installed a FIPK on a 98Gt and it sounded better at least. The owner said he felt it in the SOTP.

I think FordMuscle or one of the other guys did a write-up on some induction set-ups (it was one source that showed the stock set-up with a free flowing element was about as good as anything).

I cant remember the exact source though.

I think I remember reading something similar to that, JT. I can't remember if it was Ford Muscle, or MM&FF. I do recall that they tested air temperature at the filter in each situation, and found there to be no difference between the fenderwell intake or the airbox with the silencer removed.

I have heard that the metal versions will retain more heat, which as we know isn't beneficial to air induction.

Just don't do the open element filter like my '88 has.. you just suck in hot air from the fan (the 3000+cfm taurus fan in my case) and from everywhere else around the engine compartment. FWIW, I believe Kenne Bell said it best, something to the effect of: "Open the hood of your vehicle, start the engine, climb in to the engine compartment, shut the hood over yourself, and take a deep breath of all that hot air. Next, stand outside in normal weather and take a deep breath. Quite a difference.."
