2000 4.6L GT. What will be the best mod for my buck under $1000. No Spray!

What are your main goals? GOod handling? Fast acceleration? We could use some more info. Manual or auto? I would suggest gears and exhaust with what you got left over.

Of course, 2000 gt auto. already have flows and k&N FPIK II cold air.

Your best bet would be gears and a chip. Since your an auto I would recommend 4.10's. You will need the extra umph to get you up and going. Use your 3-400 extra to get a good mid pipe or a nice set of dr's

4.10s, chip (gotta do this on an auto, it's not just a speedo thing!), and catback would likely put you just over a grand, depending on labor. Get welded in mufflers if you must stay at a grand or less...

Since you have an automatic, you need to get a transmission cooler first and foremost if you dont already have one. Heat is the number 1 killer of the automatic transmission. A shift kit and gears would also be a good idea. I'de do a torque converter as well but they're sort of expensive.

Here is what the automatic needs:

Transmission cooler
Jerry mod shift kit or performance valve body
Torque converter -no less than 2800rpm stall
Gears - if n/a no less than 4.10's.
Sport chip - you will need one of these to correct your shift points and speedometer with a gear change.

Im not going to say much about the 0-60mph, I dont think to much in those kind of terms lol. If I had to make a guess Id go with .2-.3 tops off your 0-60.
In terms of quarter a pretty much stock 99+GT can do it in what 13.8-14.0s with a good driver. Take the same driver and conditions and you could probably shave .3 to possibly .4 off once you learn to drive really well with them.

With the mods listed below, I dropped my 0-60 mph time from 6.1 seconds to 5.3 seconds. The 4.10 gears were a major contribution.

0-60mph times = unless you have some extra sophisticated equipment like the car magazines have. They have the equipment, just retarded drivers.

I used the G-Tech performance meter. Several reviews described this device as extremely accurate. It not only lists 0-60 mph time, but 60 ft, 1/8 mile, and 1/4 mile times.

One ounce of wheelspin and the accuracy goes down the drain. Weight needs to be exact as well, or else the same happens.

there are calculators online that will calculate your 0-60 time from your 1/8 e.t. and mph from acceleration at the track...

so in reply to the 0-60 people, bring you car to the track and then put yer stuff in the calcs and you will figure out the differences there.

with a grand i would def do gears and i would do 4.10s or even 4.30s at that, if you dont wanna mess with gears you could also do long tube headers with that 1000!
