Best (Locking?) Hood Pins, To Prevent Hood From Flying Off ?

I hate to bring a thread back from the dead, but which pieces aren't used in the FRPP kit? I'm supposed to drop my car off Friday morning to have them installed and I want to warn him that there will be parts left over.

See the non-shiny kickplates with the raised lips on them (visible in the pic)? Those are supposed to go on the underside of the hood...they probably won't fit on yours unless your underside is totally flat. So skip them...shouldn't be any problems (most other hood pin kits don't even have them).

Also, in the pile of small screws/washers in the middle of the lanyards, I have no idea where the little washers are supposed to go. Only thing I've been able to surmise is that they might go between the underhood kick plate and the hood (maybe to provide a little airflow/keep the hot metal kickplate away from the underhood...perhaps to keep it from creating hot spots on the hood)...so if you're not using the underhood kickplates, don't bother with the little washers.

So basically, use the posts and nuts, the shiny kickplates on the outside of the hood screwed down with the little screws, and then the pins, and lanyards if that's your thing (I like 'em, but a lot of people don't).

Most importantly, let us know how it all goes! I still have my set sitting in my tool box, and now and again debate about installing them. Best of luck!

Thanks! I really appreciate that info. I wasn't going to put mine on until last Sunday my wife and I went for a drive and it was fairly windy. Even though everything was latched and OK, you could watch the hood dance around and I kept thinking "what if it moved just right that it came unlatched?" So now, after almost a year, the pins are going on.

Even though everything was latched and OK, you could watch the hood dance around and I kept thinking "what if it moved just right that it came unlatched?" So now, after almost a year, the pins are going on.

I have a horror story to tell you guys. After I installed my carbon composite heat extractor hood ($1k) my dad was telling me how aftermarket hoods NEVER close right. We joked about it from time to time becuase sometimes it wouldn't close right. Well a week ago on my way to work doing about 85 on the freeway the F*c*ing hood popped up!! The safety cought it, so it didn't fly up and shatter into a million pieces but my a*shole sure puckerd up. I pulled over and pushed it back down and have since decided to get hood locks. Do you have the part number Nick? Most importantly, will they work on a 98?

Does anyone have a pic that shows how the FRPP hood pins are installed under the hood. Did you just drill holes to mount the pins, weld in brackets to mount them to...????

I think they replace the rubber bumpers on your radiator support or at least thats what I understood from the guy from Steeda.

Yup I've seen another type installed that way, but was thrown for a loop when I called Steeda a few hours ago and he said they had to weld them in on the 99 and up to get them high enough to go all the way though the hood.

I just got off the phone with them and they said that they can be bolted in. I wish they would get their story straight before I drop my car off tomorrow.

Wicked. Must depend on who answers the phone. I think I'll buy some and size it up for myself. I kind of thought they should go on without welding them.

I believe, based on my research, that they're able to be bolted in and be high enough. But just barely; you have to put them up as high as they'll go.

The other issue I can forsee is that the radiator supports are basically squared-off tubes. So in order to get the pins high enough to clear the hood, you'll have to drill a hole in the support (on the side, bottom) so you can get the lower nuts on the pins. There's already a little hole in the bottom under the rubber stop holes, so that might be the way to go.

But PLEASE let us know specifics of the install when you get it back!
