Best Mufflers for Stock 5.0?

go with a catted h-pipe and super turbo muffs. beefy sound and you'll pass smog...at least, i hope you will with the smog nazis here in cali

I run the dynomax ST's along with a Car Sound/ Magnaflow HF Catted H pipe with angled turn downs and it's legal. I called a referee to ask about it. His reply was *as long as we can reach down to insert the probe, it's no problem*

BTW, The Dynomax ST's flow 410 cfm per muffler. the 50 series flowmasters flow 362 cfm per muffler. ST's are quieter at an idle with a deep BB rumble to them versus the flows, yet plenty loud at WOT. I have no 2k exhaust drone either.

I'm moving up to the ultra flows as they flow 1133 cfm each. I need a higher flowing muffler to match my output with N20.
They have the calculator to determine how much flow you need per muffler for a given HP.
All cfm ratings are with a 2 1/2" muffler with center/side configuration.

I need my mufflers replaced next spring also. Joe DaSilva at DaSilva Racing sells Bassani's. I'm getting both muffler's and the pipes replaced. Bassani I was told are stainless so they won't rust out on you. He quoted me at $499 for the muffler's and the pipes.

If Im not mistaken, the factory pipes on 5.0's are already stainless.I have a 93,and mine are!The 3 chamber flows were made to perform like the 2 chambered ones, but they were designed to cut out the drone you get one the highway.(Flowmasters)

FYI, Borlas can be had cheaply on Ebay and other online sites.I got my Pro XS mufflers for $75 each on ebay and it was worth every penny. more power than my flowmasters, nice and quiet at idle (even with dumps) and sounds badassed at WOT

I also have the Force II catback mated with flowtech off road h pipe and bbk headers. It's not too loud at idle but its pretty loud at wide open throttle. The 3 chambers also tend to keep the sound outside of the vehicle instead of booming in the interior so you can't listen to music.

3-chamber Delta Flows: Same sound without being over-the-top. Alot less drone than regular Flowmasters. I'm running 3" 3-chambers now. Pretty docile until I slam the loud pedal.

FWIW, I passed CA emmissions with both 2-chamber and 3-chamber setups and Dynomax Super Turbos. All tests were taken with 1 5/8" shorties and a 2.5" inch h-pipe w/2 cats. Havn't tested with the long tubes yet (fingers crossed until jan 05).

I have flowmaster II series with the mac o/r h-pipe. I don't think it's that loud at idle but it really screams above 3k... 92 green gt, where are you in VA? i'm in Norfolk stationed on the Truman...
I am on the other end of VA. And the cops down here are just pricks. They love being what they are too.(No offense to any police officers on here:flag: )

I want a 2.5 catback but havent fully decided what to buy. I would like Borla's or Spintechs. But havent made my mind up.

got my dynomax race bullets today....cant wait to put them on...already looked at the ordinances for where i live...and as long as its not after 10 pm in a residential area...im good to go. it was like i was a little kid again opening a present at christmas. goin with dumps because it will be easier and cheaper.

I wouldn't buy Flowmaster they drone all the time no matter the model, or rpm ! MAC or DYNOMAX are the quitest I've heard! I have 1 5/8 bbk unequals a bassani x w/cats and MAC flowpaths! sounds nice and not as much drone as the rest of the stuff I've heard out there!
good luck!

Man it must suck to live where you guys live...I've been running around with factory headers and an open OR H-pipe....I had to prove a point to all the Rednecks with Cheby trucks :D

I hope you know that running an exhaust setup like that is hurting your TQ and HP. it may sound loud as H, but your going slower I guarante ya.
These motors need back pressure to run right.

I am well aware of that...but my flowmaster broke on one side....and considering winter is here, I decided to drive it like that...for a week...and park it...especially considering I have no money for new exhaust... :notnice:

Flowmasters sound good when your idling in the street and are revving it to impress your friends, but they really dont make very good power and the drone is aweful. I have them on a stock H-pipe and they sound good, theyre loud and ballsy, but If I could do it again I would get a straight through muffler like Hooker Maxflows/Aerochamber or Magnaflows.
