Best Roll Cage?

You can get a 6-point from Jeg's real cheap, I believe around $140 or so. If you want a trick cage, I think it's Maximum Motorsports that has one where your side bars swing out for easy entry and exit, over $300 for that I think.

EDIT: Unless you have some wicked plans in the very near future, I would wait to put a cage in it until you really need it. It would stiffen the car up, but, if you haven't already, just slap some subframes on it and call it a day.

You can buy the swing out kit just have to weld it in like the maximum cage.

The maximum motorsports cage is crap. ram360 bought it. Its supposed to be ready to install. Its far from that. he returned it because the pipes and everything were the wrong sie and not even notched..

I bought a competition engineering 8 pt roll cage. It was like 150 bucks. Very good quality IMO. I had a friend mandrel bend it to fit the interior I put back into it. I got the quality of a 400 cage for 150 bucks.

Pain in the azz if you cruise it at all in the evenings. So dont put the cage in until you have too. 11.99 or quicker if I remember is a 6pt in a hard top car.

I think am going to order this same cage from summit its alittle over 200 for it shipped. Do you really like the cage how was the fitment? Also the bars that go to the back cargo area they dont have to go in where the speakers are do they because I dont really want to cut holes into my interior. Also where the bars notched and ready to weld in? Thanks for the info

Yea all the bars we notched nicely. If you have a local speed shop you can save on the shipping. I got my comp eng cage from Winners Circle by my home. I didnt have to pay any expensive shipping. Just a thought. I have my cage in a coupe so I went through the speaker area. If its a hatch like you have the bars will end somewhere by the flat areas by your spare tire in back.

My friend that installs cages only puts in comp cages. He had done hundredths and only uses comp engineering cages. They are pre notched and found no problems but you might have to grind a little to get it to fit a certain way if you want the bar to fit a certain way.

Im going to have it shipped to a friends trucking company so be less expensive then a residental delivery. I dont mind grinding I have all the welding stuff in my garage. The main thing was that I didnt want to have to cut into my interior for it to fit. Im glad that it doesnt go threw there and mounts down by the spare tire where I wanted it. Thanks for the info. :nice:

Yup summit sell's them both I think I need to order two though looks like one for each side. 40 bucks for each swing out kit I might be able to make my own for cheaper have to see what the swing out's look like on a cage already installed.

Buy the swing out door bar kit for like 30 bucks too by comp eng. Well worth it.

The Wild Rides cages are the nicest I've seen. A friend of mine got one and installed himself. Everything fit perfect. Didn't have to cut, bend, or notch anything. My Comp Engineering 8 point was just a Main hoop with a series of straight bars. Everyone of them had to be bent, cut, and notched on at least one end. Wasn't impressed.

I've been wondering the same thing. My McLaren doesn't have a back seat, and the roof is horter than a Standard Mustang, and I think Standard Mustang cages would have to be seriously modded, as the back bars would, I believe go right through where the convertible top needs to close on my car...
And if I get .1 quicker (cooler weather), I will need a cage 13.5 or quicker in a convertible.
:notnice:

Slightly :OT:

Is there a roll cage out there, designed to offer more body stiffening that also has the side bars out of the way? What I mean is:

In the pic... the BLUE bar coming down represents the typical postion of the side bar. Something you have to crawl over to get into the seat. Are there any kits out there that put the bar down low like what is depicted by the RED?

Kenny Brown makes a roll bar that runs parallel next to the seats like shown in your picture. However, keep in mind, a roll bar like that is NOT nhra legal and they'll still kick you out if you run under 12 seconds with it. A fully legal roll bar must have the door bars running between your shoulder and your elbow when you are sitting in the car.

Thanks for the reply. I don't wish to steal the thread so I'll ask one more question and go away. The roll bars that have the removable door bar. Are they legal and would removing the bar get everything out of the way for normal street driving while still provide the additional stiffening?

Yes. The removable bars are legal. I've sat in a friend's car with the bars removed and its pretty much the same as if there were no bars at all. All you really have to watch out for is a 5" piece of tubing sticking from the floor near the kick panel when the bar is removed.

The only thing that might be a pain is the main hoop support keeps your seat from being reclined a lot, so it depends how far back you like the seat to be when you drive, but that can all be accounted for when you weld everything in. Im going to be gutting my interior this winter and am getting a custom 6 point welded in the spring. I'm just getting the non removable door bars being that I don't drive the car everyday. good luck

The Wild Rides cage I saw was made like that. It had a stiffening bar running parallel close to the floor and then it had a swing out door bar (in the NHRA legal location - as shown in blue on your drawing) :nice:

Andy, thew swing out/removable doors are legal till 9.99 then they have to be changed.

As far as the cross bar on the main hoop, it is perfectly legal to make that bent for more seat adjustablity.

Yeah, after 9.99 a 10 point or more CAGE is needed, correct?

about the cross bar, I didn't know that was allowed. That's good to know. I'll keep that in mind when I get my cage done, thanks.
