after having an o/r x on my old car, and ****in loving the sound, i want something that will sound as close as possible to that, w/o having to lose my cats. i realized that taking them in and out every year for inspections is a pain. are there any cat backs that are going to give me that raspy nascar type tone im looking for? maybe side exhaust or hiflow cat x pipe?

I'm looking at the Bassani 5pc X-Pipe. They sell race pipes that bolt in place of the cats - I was told it was only a 20min operation to switch them out.

I have a BBK catted H Pipe and Magnaflow mufflers and it sounds pretty wicked when I'm on the gas. Just putting around its pretty quiet.

One of my friends runs a UPR Off-Road-X-Pipe on his '96 w/ the Flowmaster American Thunder Cat-Back and BBK Headers, car sounds wicked, anyway, when he first put the cat-back on, he had the cats on and the car still sounded wicked and loud, I'd say go w/ that, the Flowmaster American Thunder set, or if not that, you could look into MAC Flowpaths, another great sound for the stang.

A catted version of the same brand as your o/r x might be the best bet.
