I tried to look through the forums, so if it has already been asked, then please forward me to it. I am wanting to replace my front and rear calipers on my 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra. I know Varga made them and some remans/refurbs have FORD and VARGA stamped on them. Just not sure which ones to go with. There are Nugeon, Centric, Cardone, and Raybestos.

Why not just rebuild them yourself? Here is a video on the front calipers:

The 45mm rear calipers are similar to the 94-04 38mm rear calipers and here is a video on rebuilding them:

You can get the rebuild kits at parts stores like this:

Front - https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/...1993-ford-mustang?q=caliper+rebuild+kit&pos=0

Rear - https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/...1993-ford-mustang?q=caliper+rebuild+kit&pos=1

Rear is about twice as much as a front kit and that is due to how many cars they were put on so I would practice on the fronts first and get the technique figured out before I did the rears.

Other cool thing about this is you can tear them down, clean them up and have them powder coated if you want.

Front calipers are very easy to rebuild. That’s the route I would go. I’d pop the pistons out and inspect and if they are in good shape, rebuild and don’t look back.

Rears are a bit more tricky to rebuild. It can certainly be done.

In terms of what rebuilders are using the original Varga calipers, it’s all the luck of the draw really. I’ve bought SN95 calipers from most of the big name rebuilders and I’d say 80% of them have a Varga caliper but sometimes it’s a new, unmarked casting. I imagine your experience will be similar.

Pretty good write up on rebuilding the rear calipers here:

Brakes Thread 'Complete Disassembly/Reassembly Of Rear Calipers (w/ Integrated Parking Brake)...'

Well I have yet to find a single post on any Mustang forum about taking these puppies apart so I figured I would take some pics and post up. And there is probably a reason for this... they're going to be a bitch to get back together and secondly you can buy new ones for a reasonable price.

BUT my reasoning was that I was going to have the fronts powder coated and I would really like the rears to match. It wasn't going to cost me any more to have the rears PC as well so I figured if worst comes to worst and I can't get them back together then I'll just buy some new replacements...
