Blackouts

Thinking about purchasing a blackout kit for all the lights on the car.

Does anyone know for sure the laws regarding blackouts on vehicles in Oregon and Washington?

If I were to purcahse the kit I'm looking at, how much crap should I expect from the local officers?

I would imagine if when you apply the brakes if they are still very noticeable cops aren't going to bother you...If you can around with stock smoked headlights on the 01+ stangs...not sure why you can't do the same with a tailight. But I'm sure law states somewhere that you can't.

Thank you.

Talked to a few other buddies as well about this, and one of them used blackouts on his Camaro for a couple years with no problems at all. He did, however, remove the covers at night due to his headlights being much dimmer. I figure I'll be safe with them on since I have pop-up headlights.

Guess I'll be ordering them next week. :nice:

I have had two friends in Washington that got stopped by the WSP in Skagit county with these as a primary offense. One was ticketed ($125) and the other was made to remove them on the spot and told that if he was found driving with them again, he would be ticketed.

I ran blackouts in Oregon on my stang for about four years, with no harassment from the police. The visibility at night sucks and is worse on rainy nights. I don't think any current laws in Oregon address the use of them.

Now....just an idea....not even sure if it's possible...but maybe you can try finding a little higher wattage tailight bulb that may help out when you apply the brakes when there is something covering them. Aslong as you get the smoked look and not a total black out should be ok. I was thinking about getting them for my stang eventually.

I'll probably do that. The only things I'm worried about are the taillights and turn signals. I could probably stick higher wattage bulbs in each one of them to improve visibility like you recommended. Thanks!
