I have a 1995 Mustang with a 410 windsor and a Pro Products Typhoon intake currently. I also have a 96-98 Cobra hood which closes after trimming one spot where the AC compresser was hitting. It is time to upgrade the intake so it is less of a restriction. I have decided to go with a carb-style lower intake setup for fuel injectors and an elbow.

I was bidding on a Torker II EFI intake on ebay, but got outbid at the last second. :bang:

I just scored a Edelbrock Junior Victor lower intake that has injector bungs installed. It comes with fuel rails.

Now I need a low profile elbow and matching throttle body to finish this project. I WILL NOT get a new hood, so low profile is crucial. Longer term, a cam change and link bar lifters are in the plan.

Current elbow options, one of which has to work for me:

do you know the height of your current lower intake in relation to the new vic jr? you can base the height off that reference point then and choose which elbow will clear. i think your hood clearance is more your concern than the few ponies you'd gain from the difference in elbows.

seems they all have a 90mm opening so that pretty much says get a 90mm TB.

damn, that stuff is sweet! i'm sure he could hook me up with a killer elbow. now i have one more option. :nice:

you are absolutely right, hood clearance is much more important. i don't know the height yet. after the victor junior arrives, i will have a much better idea of what i need and what will work. on the lower side, i think the thing i need to clear is the fuel rails.

I like the 38513 one, you dont see it often and I think it will go with your motor/car being in black. It also looks like more of a mini plenum design with no harsh bends to worry about while still being fairly short in height.

Drivability should not disappear with this type of intake on a 410, it actually may get better as the possible softer low end could be tuned to be more fuel efficient at city/stop & go situations, probably no worse than a 302 with some tuning after all 410's aren't known for lack of trq anyway. That and blackvert is a smart fellow with the eec stuff as well so tuning it should not be a major issue. The cam will be a big part of this though...assuming he goes with a custom from one of the well known guru's he should be fine.

yeah, i did see that. but the edelbrocks say they are compatible with both LS1 and Ford throttle bodies, so i am curoius about that. the other thing about it is that it doesn't say what size throttle body it would match.

Do you have rwhp goals in mind? Not all elbows are created equal and those with a lower profile use a more drastic turn or narrowing below the 90mm opening all of which can drastically slow air flow.

heh, you must not know me very well if you have to ask that question. i haven't even taken it to a dyno yet.

no, i have no rwhp goal in mind. of course, i want the car to be fast, but making the absolute most power possible is not the most important thing to me. since this is a 100% street car, i want to be able to hop in it and go anywhere at any time for any reason. and while i am going there, i want to be able to step on it and have some fun. that is my main goal. that is why i still have A/C.

the goal of this project is to be able to spin it a little higher and get into the power band faster. that is why i am putting the 3.73s back in and have been asking about speedo gears.

all that said, this setup is certain to flow a whole lot better than the pro products typhoon intake i have in there now, elbow bends and all
