Blinkers and reverse lights do not work all of a sudden? What could it be...

Seems like both are on fuse 5 IIRC.

Good luck David.

Awesome, so (dumb question coming) where do I need to get "the fuse" to swap out? Is it anything special...?

It was kind of funny when it went out. 3 cops were sitting outside my work place tonight...I had to use my reverse lights (backing out) and then I had to make two turns before leaving from their site...luckily they know me...so they "turned the other cheek":nice:

Here is the fusebox diagram (thanks S&2B's and Tom). It looks like a 15 amper and you can see the location (double check in case the fusebox changed over the years).

You can hit wallymart for fuses (if you need to get them late at night). Or the parts store. Just a good old regular blade fuse is what you use (there are mini blade fuses for newer cars - not those). Also grab a little assortment kit (one of each fuse for like 3 bucks) to put in the glove box if you want.

Regarding leaving work, you like to live dangerously, dont ya. :p

I didnt want to chit chat on your thread till the issue was known to be fixed, but I cant help it. How's the new motor?!

Oh, if the fuse looks ok actually, see if things on fuse 8 are also not working. Those two are controlled by one wire in the ignition switch.

It could also probably be a fusible link issue too, if not the fuse (I would have to check wiring diagrams real quick to say what to look for, if anything).

Good luck!

Fuse 9 & 5 are fed by the same wire.

Fuse 8 is associated with 4,7 & 16 on the 93.
Yeah Yeah, that's what I meant.

Excellent info from you as always. :hail2:

EDIT: Was the info I posted correct for earlier aero foxes atleast, or just wrong? If the latter, it wouldnt be the first time and I appreciate a correction (I'll edit the above post to reflect my error, if there is one, so as to not mislead future searchers).

Much appreciated guys:nice: It was in fact the 15A (5 slot) fuse, the fuse box had some spares in it and I used one...worked flawlessy...

The new engine is great so far...taking it to the track this Saturday to get some new times...I probably got about 800 miles on it now...hopefully my bald dr's grab enough...chance of rain on saturday:rolleyes:

Glad to hear that you're enjoying the new engine! Going to the track already - Sweet!

We'll have to wait for Saleen to come back in here - as we've seen, the schematics for my '88 are different than what your '93 has.

Simply stated, something on the circuit is overdrawing. I normally disconnect as much stuff as I can on a given circuit and start reconnecting it and turning it on after I do (to load the component's circuitry up) and waiting for the fuse to blow. If it doesnt, I reconnect another item.............. and so on.

If you have been able to narrow down what component you think it is, that can help (like if it does fine till you sit at a left turn light and have the blinker on for a few mins, that's a pretty good clue).

Saleen should have some good advice for ya. Good luck David!

I am electrically incapable:) I don't know where the circuits are or which one to start with, etc...?

Any input:nice:

For simplicity, do you know if the fuse is ok as long as you dont use your turn signals? If it does great till you start using the TS, I would begin there. If you turn the key on and turn hit the TS stalk and let the TS flash for a bit (try both sides), see if the fuse eventually blows. Or put on a wig and drive around like an old person with the blinker on at all times. :D

I would do the same with the reverse lights. Put the car in reverse and leave it like that for a few mins, does the fuse blow?

And Saleen might have better ideas - you know I'm shadetree and that's the kind of testing I would begin with. :p

I posted this over on Corral. He's got the same thread under the exact same title and I was working with two different windows open.

If the fuse blew right away you have a dead short in the circuit. If the fuse worked for a while before it blew then you probably have a loose/chafing wire somewhere.

You'll have to do some inspecting and maybe disconnect some systems and do wiggle tests on the wiring. A meter will come in handy.

Fuse 5 supplies power to the following circuits.

Rear window defrost control relay
Turn signal flasher
Daytime running lamps (Canadian models, but US models still have the harness)
Rear window defrost switch
Backup lamp switch - heard these have caused problems due to chafing wires

There are others, but they apply to an auto or a vert.

I would just leave the fuse out initially and look over the wiring for chafing or nicks in the insulation especially in the areas where it could rub against metal brackets or a loose wire that could be touching something during vibrations. Looks like fuse 5 feeds a P/O wire. Follow the wires around and inspect as you go.

i have been having a similar problem. my breaklights, reverse lights, turn sig, and flashers all work till i turn on the cruise. then the fuse pops and none of it works. where woudl i begin to trace the problem? could the on/off switch be going bad?
